Question about stg2 kit.
Question about stg2 kit.
Went through about 20 pages of reading in the FAQ and still had a question. If I install the kit myself, will the car be safe to drive to the dealership to get the reflash done? I have read mixed responses, some say yes just not WOT others say dont risk it. Would it just be a good idea to take it in on a car trailer? The dealer is about 4-5 miles away from where I would be doing the install.
Why U wanna risk your car driving it to dealer ? And why you wanna buy GM Stage 2 kits ? They run really rich and expensive! Dealer will still charge You to reflash your PCM. Just go for ZZP Stage 3 kits and they are BEST BANG OF YOUR MONEY! You will get GREATER horses when you have ZZP Stage 3 kits than GM Stage 2 kits.
What I did is I had a specialty shop install the pulley and hub since I didn't have a puller myself, and a buddy of mine and I installed the injectors at his job (dealer). He was able to reflash it from there.
Honestly, it's not an ideal situation, but if you have to do it, just drive on the pulley and don't go into boost (at least high boost).

dont install the injectors till you get there. it really isnt a big deal whether you do or not, but if some emergency came up, you could still drive your car with a smaller pulley for weeks straight and it would cause no problems. but you wouldnt want to do that with injectors
Five miles is no going to do anything, as long as you stay out of higher RPMS and stay out of boost. Their have been people in the past who have went to the dealers to have their GM Stage 2 cars reflashed, and the dealer did not load it right and they were still on the stock flash for weeks before noticing. Even the GM LSJ build book says you can drive it to the dealer after install for the reflash. Drive it, it will be fine
Thank you everyone for the feedback. I went with the gm kit because I've barely had this car for 2 weeks and it's christmas time lol. Dont want to get to deep into my pockets. I will probably upgrade further such as the zzp kit when I have put some more time and money into the car I.E. - intake and full exhaust. Right now she sits completely stock. Once again thanks for the input =P

The gm kit is fine its just the tune thats not that great, if u ever get some bolt ons( intake, exhaust) u can have one of the many hptuners on this site tune ur car for better power u dont need to buy more injectors or another pulley from zzp To make power just a good custom tune will work.
to the op, canned tunes just wont perform as well as custom tunes. but, canned tunes are remarkable in that they are safe for any car anywhere. custom tunes have their tradeoffs as well though
with custom tunes might trade off reliability and gain performance.
with canned tunes you trade off performance and gain reliability.
it all depends on your tuner. the gm stage kit is worth the money. when its all said and done, you spend close to the same price with a wideband and a custom tune if you go with the zzp kit

Gm tunes are fantastic. You might not have the fastest car, but you'll have the most reliable. & to some people, that's better than making the most power.
however once you start throwing other things at the car(intake, exhaust, etc), having a custom tune/zzp tune would make the car run a little beetter. But then ya gotta wathc out who's doing the tuning..... but we won't go there.

Can you people suggesting other kits not read? He already HAS the GM Stage 2 kit. There is nothing wrong with the GMS2, I'd take it anyday over the hit or miss canned crap out there

considering I'm in BFE the closest tuner is 6 and 1/2 hours away in KC. Like I said before she's bone stock and not looking to go ***** deep in power or money ATM. I don't want to get into smaller pullies and such because the extra cost of buying the HE and needing an intake/exh set up. Besides maybe a 30 pack Ill have everything installed and just need to get the reflash done + labor for it. Perks of working with a couple cert. gm techs who no longer work at the dealer lol.
