2.5 is the optimal for our motors. Just making it better flowing is what we are trying to do

Use resonators and go dual... Dual exhausts are quiter than single exit.

Thats really your call as to if you want to be able to quiet your exhaust with the flip of a switch.

I personally would just go with a catback exhaust.

Stock exhaust is 2,5" piping, except for the rear section that is 2,25". The Magnaflow 2,5" catback will roughly gives you 10 WHP. You can also got the rear 2,25" section replaced and the stock muffler replaced by a Magnaflow, both giving roughly the same result than the Magnaflow catback, but at a lower cost. Here is a how to :

2.5" exhaust is good for stock to very mildy modded Cobalts. But if your pushing 230whp, I really think the 3" is going to give you more benefits. But I guess that wasn't his question.

People who say get 3" really have no idea what there talking about, a single 2.5" exhaust on our cars should be enough for above 300WHP.

Look at a stock LS1/LT1 exhaust the single intermidiate pipe on both is 2.75" even though that is a bottle neck on those cars it is more than enough for a S/C 2.0

It doesn't matter if a S/C moves alot of air it still can only displace 2.0 liters of it at a time.

2.5 inch exhaust is plenty for any amount of power your going to get using a motor with completely stock internals and some mods, including stage 2 when it comes around.

See my thread on the just released Corsa Sport exhaust. Their engineers have put plenty of time into answering this question.
