22psi with a 2.8" ?

much to high

sounds like an exhaust restriction such as a defective convertor

my 2.7 in really cold weather hit 20psi

my thoughts: something is blocking it up in the exauhst, typically the cat is the the culprit. but since you have no catalytic converter we look in other places. What jim said (check you spark) if your motor is not efficiently burning the air and gas its given this can build up pressure in the intake manifold, resulting in higher boost readings.

another odd thing it might be is your gauge? ive never heard of one reading bad but i supose it can happen. How much max vacuum do you run? it should be right around 23.

Could it be the bypass valve on the blower?

35 is cold...

20psi on a 2.8 is WAY too high.. no matter how you're going to try and justify it.

A BOOST bypass will have nothing to do with the coolant...

it opens when you let your foot off the gas so there is no pressure being made.

What plugs are you using?

They come pre gapped smaller than they should be... and should be widened up a bit.

Buy a new bypass valve and i think you will be ok.Because if it aint working right in can cause you to over boost just like a blow off valve on a turbo car.

That would be the wastegate that adjusts boost level...

And it bleeds the air to keep boost level down.

colder weather would never raise boost more than 1psi

And OP, PLEASE stop typing in all caps.

the bypass valve is completely shut when WOT on all cars..a broken bypass valve cannot cause overboosting like a BOV can on a turbo car, because the supercharger is directly proportional to engine RPM, unlike a turbo which would spike whenever you shift. A broken bypass valve will either keep the valvre closed under idling/cruising conditions, which wouldnt affect psi under WOT, or it would be partially open under WOT, which would cause a reduction in psi

Something is clogged somewhere....thats really all there is to it. Have you or anyone else ever messed with your cam timing or anything else using that chain? If not, then theres some sort of clog in either the exhaust track, or the intake manifold

^^ what im trying to say is that it is not the blow off valve on a turbo system that will cause over boosting..

That would be the wastegate.

the stock gauge doesnt even read above 20psi unless its a t/c gauge. if theres no restriction in your exhaust, something may be restricting your intake manifold. look down in there maybe the laminovas collapsed or someone left something inside.

your bypass valve cant make you boost higher. only bleeds off boost under idle/vac. its always closed when your w0t.

ok. i just misunderstood ya. I was explaining more for the OP tho. I figure u already know how the bypass valve works

OP, you also might wanna try taking the end plate off and checking out the laminovas, but i'd start with the exhaust..maybe the muffler got clogged up or broke apart inside

it would be a faulty sensor since he's using more than just the stock gauge to get the same reading, but possibly?
