Rev limits on the LSJ

what does everyone recommend revving to on the lsj? right now my limiter is @ 7000rpm on stock pulley with the only mod a catless dp. to come would be a 2.7, 60#'ers, and necessary cooling mods with a header (havent decided which) custom intake, and a few others im still deciding on. i understand to rev higher its wise to replace the valve springs and what not. is it worth it to go higher or does the power curve drop off after 7k?

Power drops off after 7500rpms. Valve springs are needed to rev that high. 7g's is safe and you wont pick up much more revin to 7500 the main benefit would be in 1st and a bit in 2nd gear. Gm recommends no higher than 7000 on stock valve springs n retainers.

you need springs and neutral balance shafts to rev to 8000. It would be so nice to have another 1000 rpms and i am sure it would sound nice.

Stock power peaks at 6300 rpms after that is steadliy falls off, just take a look at most stockish dyno graphs.

I did 7400 for 2.5 years with no problems

off subject but how does your stock exhaust sound with the catless dp? and what brand and size is it?

it sounds close to stock, maybe a tad louder at WOT. not raspy at all. i was surprised. all i did was cut out the cat and straight piped it. $40 and works just as well as any you could order. noticed some gains from it, feels like it breathes a little easier. for those who dont have emissions checks, i'd say go catless. the sounds is really close to stock.

thank god for someone knowledgeable chiming in. i've been at work since 3:30pm and I was reading this **** and couldn't log in and I was so antsy at the MISINFORMATION being posted.

I've been reving to 7500 for about a year and half now with no problems as well.

The reason we rev that high isn't because of power, but because of gearing.

Nope, gm would not warranty a 7k redline if it was deemed to dangerous. You got to remember your up there for a split second usually. I never banged every gear like that just third when i was going through the traps so i would not have to shift to 4th

gm has actually lowered their rev limits on the stage kits now.

i used to run mine to 7300 without any issues. since the valve train swap. i have seen over 8k more than once

On the catless downpipe, I removed mine just like ssyellowss and mine sounded terrible. Terrible drone, raspy revs but the idle was great. Had a real good loapy sound at idle and was quiet a bit louder inside and out. I went back and put my stock cat back in. Also would kick CEL anytime it set at idle for a few.

yea.. if you take out your cat, your gonna have rasp...

Get a resonator welded in... it muffles the sound like a Cat would, but has no air restriction what so ever.

Sorry I meant it stops making any power after 7500 on stock cams.
