Rod Knock Fuuuuuu

I'm on my summer tune, and it's 24* out and snowing. I was not on it at all, cruise set at 60 mph because it was snowing and shitty roads.

CEL came on when I hit some snow in the road. MAF sensor and Rod Knock sensor. Car ran fine before the scan, but as soon as I deleted them, it won't idle. It surges and nearly dies. I can't tell if I'm smelling oil or not, I think I'm paranoid. (I'm catless, so I might just be smelling the exhaust)

MAF sensor should be the filter just got wet, snow was everywhere. But who knows.

So what kind of damage to the motor am I looking at if the Rod Knock did get pretty bad?

Video in 5 minutes.

Video won't upload off the camera. Trying again in the morning.

All I can hear is idle surge and a pulley squeal that I can't diagnose. Thought it was the pulley tensioner because there's no boost problems or power issues.

94k miles ftw.

It's not a rod knock sensor, it's a knock sensor, it picks up engine noise but its mostly there to detect detonation or spark knock and let the computer know to retard the timing to prevent it. Sounds like you just got snow or water in your air filter and up around your pullies, now a/f ratio is off due to incorrect maf readings...

very plausible, happen to me last summer when all of f=in pittsburgh flooded, i drove through a deep puddle and all of a sudden my rev limiter was 4k lol, the maf got wet, a couple days drying it and it was fine

get some maf cleaner, pull the maf, spray it in the direction of the air flow. {there is a little arrow on it that shows this}. let dry for a few seconds. stick back in car and start it back up

Awesome. Thank you.

I'll give it a go in the morning.

It was a buddy's 21st birthday tonight, so I didn't have time for the car. Is it worth getting a Stage flash for the car before I take off on Monday? And then have it retuned upon my return to Ohio?

add fuel to the tune and have the maf worked for colder temps. it IS off. the car is trying to jump between the ve and maf scaling. the maf is wacked right now so the computer is in RE RE mode trying to compensate.

I think I'm just going to a dealer and have the stage 2 tune put on until I can get back to Ohio. I'd have you tune it, but I don't have the money for it.

lol, dude you need to calm down. You are flipping out over what will end up being a simple MAF issue. If you had a rod knock, youd know.

Lol. I know I was flipping out. I have to drive 600 miles on Monday!

Oh, and getting this issue right before I go out for a 21st birthday party really helped.

**** me running, I think I'm getting the WRX sound now.

Ya I've got your number, I just didn't get time before I left.

I'm thinking my car isn't going to be healthy enough to come back tomorrow. My friend is coming over to help diagnose it, but it's burning oil now. This only started after I cleared the codes. I don't understand it.

I'm in Olathe, KS btw.

if ur getting the WRX sound,, try this, pull your valve cover off and see if you have a broken off rocker arm and bent lash adjuster like i did... when mine did this, it sounded lik a WRX, one exhaust valve was not functioninng at all, luckily, the valve did not drop into the cylinder... its worth it to check it out man.. whats weird is, my ECU tried to compensate for it, BUT, it just wouldnt hold. you have all the reasons in the world to just pull off the valve cover and check.

Ya, I just pulled the plugs to take a look. They look like ****, and they've only been in there for three months.

The cylinder closest to the driver side had ****(Oil, I'm pretty sure) up the spark plug tube slot, but it was dried up. I don't remember seeing that before.

I hope I can get it going right because I'm getting within hours of having to leave to drive back to Cincinnati, and if I have to I need a new plan on how to get there.

clean all the plugs, pull the valve cover off, look in combustion chamber to see if pistons are wet, clean sensors on maf, and top of blower start and see what happens

Doing a compression test, new plugs. Tomorrow it's getting a stage 2 flash.

Compression test was good. Plugs were fine.

We unhooked the MAF and BARO and the car ran fine. Plug them back in, it goes nuts. Unplug just the MAF and it runs fine, and I drove it around the block nothing wrong.

I'm just going to drive it like that back to Cinci, then fix the sensor (Which is the third MAF sensor in a year) later.
