Safe to resleeve an LSJ?

I've got an LSJ with some pretty severe scouring in the #1 cylinder wall from a ring. My local machinist told me he's had issues resleeving ecotec's in the past, he mentioned one guy had it done and 6 months later he was getting his oil & antifreeze mixing.

Is there any truth to this? If not, what is my best bet for new sleeves...OEM or another brand? This will be about a 300 hp build.

Contact MrBelvedere on here, he's got a lot of experience with sleeves and these blocks.

It CAN be done, but must be done right. The material around the stock sleeves isn't thick and can be damaged pretty easily if the proper tools aren't used and procedures followed.

I have the tooling to resleeve ecotecs

I just purchased solid iron sleeves but made the mistake of buying 0.010 oversized diamond pistons and the sleeves are thin as hell as it is, my build is around 700hp should I go with darton sleeves

mrbelvedere 03-08-2016 03:36 PM

darton is overpriced I have a sleeve that is just as strong and cheaper

mrbelvedere 03-09-2016 01:44 PM

go they have problems with cavitation

mrbelvedere 03-14-2016 12:11 AM

cavitation?

jonah 03-14-2016 09:40 AM

Wet sleeves have cavitation problems when the piston fires the coolant on the other side collapses with air bubbles ( cavitation) and can cause damage to the sleeve over time I know this happens with all sleeves just wondering if your sleeves have had problems with this

mrbelvedere 03-14-2016 10:09 AM

If that was the case all engines sleeved or not would have that problem

They have grooves machined into them to agitate the water to keep them cool

I would like to purchase the sleeves just one more question do they fill the coolant galley at the head? With room for coolant to get by Do they look just like darton ?

jonah 03-14-2016 10:37 AM

What dose darton have that these don't I know darton is super expensive but why are your cheaper

mrbelvedere 03-14-2016 03:24 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Attachment 12156

mine are made of the same material and you don't have to butcher the block nearly as much as a darton to install
I have a vendor that worked with me to set a price that people can afford

jonah 03-15-2016 10:15 AM

How can I purchase the sleeves and what metal do you use for pegging

mrbelvedere 03-15-2016 05:25 PM

you can use what ever you want to peg if you want the sleeves pm me

jonah 03-20-2016 01:53 PM

Is this reasonable at all?

Slowbalt2000 03-20-2016 02:10 PM

Go for it

ItalianJoe1 03-20-2016 04:34 PM

I would NOT fill the block, totally not necessary on these blocks, you just need good sleeves or a newer block casting. Both of which are available and much more proven than a potentially disastrous DIY block filler.

jonah 03-20-2016 05:22 PM

So there's no aluminum block guard ( girdle) that is usable with the LSJ

Slowbalt2000 03-20-2016 05:31 PM

Yeah but only if you buy a zzp block

ItalianJoe1 03-20-2016 05:32 PM

No, ZZP used to sell a block with essentially a welded in block guard, still had issues with the stock sleeves and other problems. Use the thicker Mr. B sleeves, or go with a newer closed deck block.

PROPERLY TUNED, a stock LSJ can make 500whp, so the sleeves/block aren't bad. Most failures are tuning/setup issues.
