save some gas?
save some gas?
Just traded in my scion tc, which would get about 300-350 miles to the tank (12 gal, i think). The cobalt gets around 200 if I'm lucky. I don't drive the car too hard, it's still being broken in. Gas mileage is pretty much the same on both stickers, and cars are/were used for 3/4 highway use. Anyone know how to save some gas, even if I'm grannying the car? Thanks, and also, why does it take a day and a half to get from 6500 rpm down to idle at a stop? (I know, the post is kind of contradicting, ha) Anyways of fixing this, and why did they design it this way?
What can I expect 1/4 mile wise stock, and with a stage 2 gmpp kit? Let me know your numbers..

After it breaks in, the milage will get better. It really depends on how you drive this car, it makes a huge difference (at least it has in my experience)
regarding 1/4 times... high 14's stock, high 13's on stage 2 maybe? I've never ran on the track, so I really cant tell ya.
Welcome to the site though, you'll love your new car!

already enjoy the car.. had to get rid of that scion asap and get something decently quick. good features in the chevy. what exactly causes **** mpg during the break in period? thanks,

The gas mileage is bad while you are breaking it in because the computer is trying to learn the climate and driving habits... I think it doesnt even conform to emissions standards for the first 3-500 miles because of it. (I think it runs rich during the learn)
Yeah, that right foot gets you in trouble... I am constantly using my right foot way to often, its just so tempting

remember you can get up to 30% more mileage out of your tank if you dont take off like a madman from stop signs and lights. Downshifting also uses more fuel.
An intake might help you out as well, but it would take a while to recoup that cost in gas.

I get 30-32 mpg every fill up and just ran the car Saturday and ran a 14.08 at 101. Trapped 105 on a 14.2 run. I have stage 2 with 2.9" pulley, dp with cat, gm catback, airbox mod, and ingalls.

I'm pushing 30,000 miles on my '06 right now, and I'm getting 31+mpg. I'll echo whats been said about staying out of the boost, though. The heavier your right foot, the lower your mpg.

I get about 28mpg, I'm in a combo of really heavy traffic and on the highway at 80 mph everyday, It takes me 30 mins to go the 7 miles to the highway. I drive my car hard, I get about 285 miles out of each tank at about 10.4 gallons, Highway is great got 380 miles on a tank when it was all highway and I was doing 90 most of the time. When I first got it I got about 21mpg for about the first 1000 miles. The engine is just not as efficent during break in.
wait the question is why is it at 6500 rpm at a stop !!!! are you shifting to first at like 60mph or what? Good way to wreck the tranny, you shouldnt see 6500k anyways if it isnt broken in.
i've reset the MPG meter on my car like 5 times in the last two months. It says I am getting 34 MPG. Most of my driving is on the freeway. I did lean it out a touch in HPT. After resetting the tripometer after filling and taking notice to how much gas to empty (505miles) I get out of it all together (320) miles when it's below the red fill line. The car holds 12 gallons but I can only put in 11 1/2 gallons (must have a half gallon still in there).
It's hard to keep the car out of boost when you go to a smaller pulley because even in cruise at 5th gear it teeters between vac & boost. Noticeably it usually sits at -10 vac most of the time w/a 2.7 in pulley /60lb injectors.

Who needs gas mileage? Drive it like you stole it..
BriantheLion26: I'm sure you could get the car a better ET if you're trapping 105. I know these cars are hard to launch, though.
RPM - Yup, the slow drop is norm on the SS
MPG - Dunno dude. Mine gets 26MPG around town. That include 3,000 ft of elevation change everyday. Just did a 1500 mile trip on a combo of Interstate, mountain highway, coastal 2 laners avg 30.8MPG Maybe the 6.5K revving is killing you.

I have 14K miles on my car and get about 25mph in town cause I put my foot in it pretty often. But 31.6 at 75mph with cruise on, 33.6 at 65, I think that is great! Lots of power and good mileage too.
Like others have said, if you keep the boost gauge below 0, you get great mileage! But I just can't help myself!
