Security Learn Procedure

There has been several people needing to know how to do the security learn procedure while working on their projects.
I haven't seen this posted or sticked to date. This seems like something that would come in very handy, so here goes.

This straight from the Service Manual and perhaps this should be put somewhere everyone can see it.

There are 2 ways to do this. One is a 10 minute option that requires a Tech 2 and a techline terminal. Lets skip to the second way.

Conditions
Use this procedure after replacing:
- Passlock Sensor
- BCM
- PCM

30-minute Learn Procedure.

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF
2. Attempt to start the engine, release the key to ON. The vehicle will not start.
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale. After approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.
7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

This is how you reprogram the chip in the key if you don't have a tech 2. Is that all a security (CASE) relearn is? I thought it had something more to it than that.

security relearn is not a CASE relearn. two completely different things. and TMK there is no chip in the key. this is the Passlock feature which is activated when pushing the lock button twice and your horn chirps. it can be set off by simply opening your car door w/ the key instead of FOB after turning on passlock.

For those who "know it all" or just those who want to learn, this is the way to reset your Theft Deterent System Components.

Passlock is a chip in the key, what you are talking about is the regular alarm. Passlock is a transponder in the ignition switch that reads the key, and the signals must match what is stored in the BCM in order to start the car. If you look at our keys, you see a small '+' in a circle by the black part of the key, that indicates Passlock. Corvettes and some other GM cars don't have that, but most do. This process is just to relearn the keys if you were to lose both of them or something. You have to allow the computer to learn the new frequency or nothing will happen.
