Shift Light Point

I have a 2006 SC, and three interceptor gauges. Question is I want to set one of them up as a shift light and I'm new to driving manual, so what would be the best RPM to use?

my redline is 7200 so i set mine at 6800 so by the time i react and shift im not hitting revlimiter.

even though i can just take a peek at my revs when im wot.

So I should just aim for something a little below redline enough to avoid hitting it, right?

I put mine at 6500. Generally speaking, between the lag on the tachometer and your reaction time you'll probably go 200-300 RPM above it before you get off the gas and get the clutch down. I just rounded to the nearest 500 because I don't ever want to hit the rev limiter.

Plus, shifting between 6500-7000 will drop you right into the peak torque band.

So as far as starting on manual, should I put it around 6500 or maybe even a little lower?

You want to set it where you'd be in the proper powerband when the RPM's drop.

You can start with 6250 until you're comfortable with it but 6500 should be fine.

BTW, you keep saying you're new to manual, do you mean drag racing or just driving one in general? You probably shouldn't worry about rev limiter shifting right away if you aren't used to a manual.

If you're talking about everyday driving, usually 3k in first then 2500 every gear thereafter. I go off speed more than RPMs for daily driving though (you'll understand what I mean when you go around a corner and need to downshift)
