Snapped my first axle.

So I go to the weekly car meet tonight.
Last weekend in germany, I'm going to make a lot of noise..

So I decide I want to spin the wheels.
Rev to 6 grand in first, drop the clutch. I feel the car jerk. Nothing happens.

Car won't move under it's own power.

jack the car up, sure enough, axle snapped. grease is everywhere.

FML

I'm supposed to ship the car back to the United States on Wednesday.. To a parts yard I go!!

KY Stg3 clutch is working LOL :D TVS is working! LOL

I'll put up pictures tomorrow.

I thought it was the transmission at first, it spewed grease on the ground and I thought it was transmission fluid, just grease.

Black_Mamba_09 09-07-2012 10:53 PM

Dam man thats not good.

tylerjclance 09-07-2012 10:55 PM

Don't rev to 6 grand and drop the clutch with a stg3, and 100+hp over stock. LOL

06cobalt racer 09-07-2012 11:04 PM

Probably not your smartest idea...oh well.'wish I had an axle for you.

turbosmart4 09-07-2012 11:09 PM

:r: smart idea :r:

tylerjclance 09-07-2012 11:09 PM

Huge face palm.

Just means i'm putting down decent power :) And the stg3 clutch is doing what it's meant to do. LOL

Yes since some ppl give up and part out. I don't really mean it but makes me laugh when I call dibs even when whatever broke is not serious..

startingline05 09-08-2012 10:00 AM

I got a set of the 1mm bigger lsj axles in my trunk that i bought from napa. Im launching my car alot harder now just trying to see what the stock axles will take. So far I havent had the same out come as you.... yet lol. If i dont break them before the track next month i will just swap them out.

here is the video I broke the Cobalt SS. - YouTube

bluebalt07 09-08-2012 02:14 PM

Looks like a fun mess to clean up lol

Bluelightning 09-08-2012 02:19 PM

The key to prevent breaking axels when doing stuff like that is to load the drivetrain before dumping the clutch

tylerjclance 09-08-2012 03:10 PM

I will be sure do that if and when I ever have the will do drop the clutch

Melon 09-08-2012 03:45 PM

That sux, gotta get it fixed so we can roll together in so cal

CannonBalt 09-08-2012 03:57 PM

So, does it always snap at the transmission? Or at the hub?

Mendomar06 09-08-2012 04:10 PM

Beside the crappy part of it being broken...thats BEAST

06SS ALL DAY 09-08-2012 09:42 PM

You need to go to 6k to move those tires? Lol shoulda preloaded at least at that high of rpm. Oh well lesson learned for next time lol.

tylerjclance 09-09-2012 07:40 PM

definitely a learning experience..
Now I need to hope that the new axle get's shipped ASAP from ZZP.
I need to ship my car back to the states this week LOL

Stage 1 on the driver's side, stock on the passenger side. hahaha

carstedt 09-09-2012 07:55 PM

shoulda jus went big and got the stage 3's!

tylerjclance 09-09-2012 11:45 PM

LOL I don't have that kind of money

c130aviator 09-10-2012 07:30 PM

Thanks for the laughs Turbo smart and tyler. can you tell if it broke off in the tranny? If its just the joints, easy fix. How much did super fast overseas shipping cost? Ouch.
