Red face Sorry but it's another intake question thread!

I've owned the SS/SC for almost a year now and it's been stock to this day.
I'm saving for a stage 2 but in the mean time I have some money for a cai.
Was heading towards injen with their 18hp/18tq claim and just had a few questions.

Has anyone seen that much of a gain and how much in the 1/4 mile will it put you?
If I install will it throw a cel code?
Should I say heck to it with Injen and get AEM or K&N?
Also how hard is it to install and will the dealer kill my warranty for it?
Thanks guy's!

don't have a SC but ill tell you that 18hp sounds a little ambitious. Basically I think on all our cobalts, basically all the intakes are about the same, its not like AEM is gonna get ya 5hp and Injen is gonna get you 20.

Do you have to disconnect the neg battery cable to do this? I did not see anything about it in the INJEN how to.

I believe so far injen is the only one not to throw a CEL code. 18/18 sounds a bit high but you should get that sweet super charger whine and it shouldnt void your warrenty aslong as the dealership cant prove it caused the problem. Im getting the injen intake when I get a CAI. Install isnt hard if you have the tools to do it. Have you ever done a CAI on anything before?

Basically once you get a stage 2, intake and exhaust will really help the car perform.

you disconnect the battery to reset the maf sensor, so the engine has the correct air to fuel ratio... something like that. lol. just disconnect and let it sit for a couple minutes, plug it in and start it up.

i didn't install my k&n, i got it down at the dealer, but intakes are typically just bolt on parts and don't mess with any warrenty cause all it is is a tube. if you're unsure about the warrenty bit just call and ask the dealer. only installation would be questionable. actually using the part only adds air into the engine.

i've yet to have a cel with my k&n in the 2 weeks i've had it on. also intakes typically help mainly with throttle response, the gas will feel a lot more sensitive (in a good way), and with the ss/sc it feels like theres more low range torque and power. nothing thats gonna stand way out or anything, but you will notice it.

I don't know about other ones but i have had the K&N Typhon intake in my car for about a year now. I have never thrown a cell with it. So everyone that says K&N will throw a cell cause of the oil must be doing something wrong cause i clean my filter about once a month and re-oil it every time. Never had a problem. The whole battery thing i don't know about. My instructions didn't say anything about that. And it is a really simple install.

Ok here is the thing, get a dry flow filter. I believe AEM makes the dry flow filters with the cover and everything. I don't care what any of these guys tell you WET FILTERS are BAD FOR OUR MAF's. It took me a whole year and a half to find this out on my own and I dried mine almost all the way. The oil from an oiled filter will blow all over your maf eventually blowing out the maf and cause your car to run rich and eventually die out

I've had the Injen for over 12,000 miles. No cels and no problems. Didn't see anything about having to disconnect the battery in the instructions, and I am VERY particular about reading the directions before I start any project. Don't know about 18/18, but there is a noticable difference, not just in whine (which is GREAT : ) , but also in giddy-upedness.

I haven't read the rest of these posts but I had no problems installing my Injen on my SS/SC. No CEL's. Kick ass sound. Nice gains as well.

GL and have fun.

Sorry, man, gotta do it.... if you're coming about getting advice on an intake, you need more help than we can give.

Or, maybe you don't. Maybe you're getting all the help you need by us giving you advice.

Apologize again, was just too easy.

They mean dry flow cause they dont have oil on them like the K&N filters do.

18HP/18TQ I dont think so. You'll get about 8hp/8tq to the wheels. All intakes for the SS/SC depending on size will do about the same numbers.

Go with any intake that we have posted that doesnt throw a code. K&N didnt for me, but I have a terrible intake because its oiled, as some would say. I like K&N and it works for my car.

A friggin intake alone is NOT going to get an extra 20hp! No wonder the aftermarket companies make so much money selling them.

Intresting....

If you go to cobaltperfomanceparts.com in the cobalt air intake section one of the listings is for a 2.4L SS that gives 15hp.

So you guys are saying over 10 hp from a cai is out of the question in relation to our cars?

Looks like I'm aming at injen plus a hydroshield "sock".
Are the socks any good / reliable?

Personally never felt they were necessary, unless you were planning on driving your car through water deep enough to cover the filter. Our filters ride pretty high, and they are encased behind the front fascia. Little chance of getting enough water in there to do harm.

I put the sock on because we have flash flooding in AZ and it gets past where the intake is in some cases. Put it on, it cant hurt.
Im not saying its not possible for cars to get that much hp, its just those hp levels are probably pushing ice cold air on it and at perfect elevation and all that crap. Are you going to get it to your car.... probably not...
I was saying they are all going to et about 8hp/tq for the SC guys because if its a manderel (sp.) bent 3" pipe vs another of the same. HP's are gunna be similar.
