Spark Plug gap questions

So Ive picked a plug out to run with the car 1 stage colder and copper I know the basics of spark plugs black is too rich, white is too lean and so forth.

I know you cant gap irriduim plugs, coppers dont last, etc

So really what I want to know is how you determine the proper plug gap to run. Stock is .040 but ive been told with the 1 step colder some have problems and closed it to .038.

What "problems" are they talking about and what symptoms do I look for in trying to determine if things are at the right gap

I run NGK Coppers in my 2.2 cobalt, 2 step colder (BKR7E), stock gap, daily driven

They run pretty good.

I need to check them pretty soon though to see how they're holding up

You might have to just find the right gap for your car. What works for someone else might not work for you.(Oh,by the way you can gap iridiums)

ok update

got new plugs again in stock plug heat range and same gap as stock only difference is copper instead of platinum and now im getting knock above 13psi WTF this never happened with the stock plugs, Am I getting spark blowout?

This is starting to look like more trouble than its worth using anything other than exact stock plugs
