Stage 2=Big MPG increase?

did anyone else notice a huge MPG incrase when they installed stage 2? Before stage 2 i was getting at best 23 MPG city. And that was babying the car, no hard driving at all. Now since i installed stage 2, my MPG averages around 28MPG with hard driving. Im just curious as to why such a large MPG increase or if anyone else experienced it?

On average, people have reported their MPG going up after installing Stage 2. On average, people have also reported their MPG going up again if they moved up to 60#'s. Have no idea why, just what most people on this board have been reporting.

Would a smaller pulley yield few mpg? The motor is having to spin the supercharger faster...all the time, it seems like there'd be more drag.

I also noticed a slight increase in mileage when i installed the stage 1. Maybe the tune helps out with the mileage, only thing I can think of.

the pulley has nothing to do with it, your car is using a new tune with larger injectors that 'can' flow more if required but since most of the time, if driving normally, that power is not needed so your able to complete the same task you did before with less effort which means less rpm which means increased fuel economy.

Of note: did all of you who experienced gains in MPH after the Stage 2 change your fuel? I know with our stock SS/SC's we can get away with 87 octane (even though 91 is recommended). After the Stage 2, it's my understanding that we must use 91 octane.

Basically, were you all using 91 octane before and after the Stage 2 upgrade?

i noticed a HUGE increase in MPG for about 2 weeks after stage 2. then it all went back to normal. i went from 18.9mpg before stage 2 up 26mpg after and then back down to around 19. Lately i have been shifting between 2600-3000rpms and my mpg have slowly gone back up to around 20.5. If you shift below 3k in first gear you'll notice big hikes in the mpg.

been using 93 since the first day i got my car

Interesting, with my 3" pulley, my mpg went down 2-3. But, the pulley was also feaking heavy. Maybe that's why.

mine went up too! on the highway with cruise control set at 70mph i'm getting a good amount over 32mpg. 32 is the worst gas mileage i've seen with the cruise set at 70. i cant believe stock we are supposed to only get 29mpg highway...

Looks like almost everyone agrees on it going up ... We are going to be putting on a stage 1 kit with our own pulleys (2.9 or 2.8). I'll let you guys know what we come up with. Hopefully is good becuase everyone loves good gas mileage!

The reason why (I think) your gas mileage goes up is because of the leaner tune. You have to remember that GM runs their vehicles pig rich from the factory and with them leaning out the fuel= less gas used.

They do like to run them pretty rich, I can attest to that fact!

Before my S2 install i was averaging about 23 total. After the S2 install i jumped to 25 total. Then i got a new job about a month and a half after the S2 install and did all highway driving for about a month straight and averaged 31 total. I had about 4000 miles on my car when i got the S2 installed. Also, the car has never sipped any octane other than the 1/8th of a tank that was left in it from the factory (no clue what grade it was) and the 93 that ive put in it ever since that day.

So, in the US, is 93 your standard top octane? Just wondering because in Canada (at least Western Canada) our top standard octane is 91.

Then again, Canada and the US typically measure things differently so it could just be that too.

Not to thread hi-jack here but Saltbager where in NEPA are you from??

And yes 93 octane America's Hightest gasoline. I have seen a range of 91 through 94 but mostly 93!

well, I have noticed it has gone down like 5-7mpg, even when I don't drive it hard...and I drive a lot too, I drive about 60 miles round trip to college, then if I work....etc....but I still love the **** out of the car! Oh, and by the way I am running the CA 2.79" pulley on the stage 2.

It depends on where you live. When I go back to the East coast I see more and more gas stations with 93 octane as the premium until all of them have 93 as the standard. Out where I live in South Dakota the standard premium octane is 91. There are like 1 or 2 stations in the area that have 93 and one that has 94. There is one station up close to the dragstrip in Sturgis that has 100 octane I think???
