Stage 2 Belt

Ok recently I was looking around my engine bay and found that my stage 2 belt has split in half the entire way around and is not that old. I also did a quick check and have seen that a few others are having the problem as well at the same time. So I figured I would make a poll to see how many people have and have not had a problem. So just vote and post how old the belt was when it broke or how long you have had it with no problems. Tanks

well I will have to take it to the dealer and see if they will replace it for me. I bought a new one from GM Parts Direct(cheapest place I could find) and if they replace it at the dealer I will just use it as a back up so I am never "stranded".

You can usually hear belt slip. You'll know.

And i have had my belt on the car for probably a good 8-10k miles so far.

No issues here. Over 15K total on the belt. About 5K on the Stage II pulley and over 10K on the 2.79" pulley...

With belt slip you will hear squealing, lose boost, but the engine will rev as normal.

With clutch slip your RPMs will jump without you actually accelerating, and you won't hear anything except your engine rev.

It's easier to just say:

Belt slip will effect boost readings (i.e. - dropping boost levels at higher RPM's)

Clutch slip will effect tach readings (i.e. - fast RPM, slow car )

Mine ripped apart last night. Havent had the S2 kit on for more than 1,000 miles. My guess is the belt just wasnt put on properly and it was the mechanics fault not the belt. So I wont call it a POS, hopefully my new belt will be just fine.

They didn't have it seated on all of the pulleys correctly.

Mine was reinstalled w/ my 2.79" pulley after they got my head back from the machine shop at TTP. Mine has been perfectly fine for the last 10K+. Who installed it on his?

Just for clarification, it wasn't either one of them.....It was another guy that doesn't even work there.

Where can I get a new stage 2 belt? Can I order just that part through GM parts? Anyone know the part number if you can? Just put on a smaller pulley and small piece of one of the ribs on the exposed side of the belt tore, not even all the way through but I want a back up just in case it tears and its making me nervous. Any help or thoughts?

The part # 12597993. You can get it at Crate Engine Depot and GM Parts Direct. GM Parts Direct is a little cheaper but they both are good companies and both ship fast.
