Stage 2 Self Install
Stage 2 Self Install
I'm quite sure someone has already asked this question, but I'm new here haven't found it yet.
Can you do the install of the stage 2 kit yourself, or is it going to require a GM dealer to reflash the ECM?

fair warn you the stock pulley is a real b**** to get off I still havent gotten it off just ordered the zzp puller well rented it to give it a shot if the doesnt work will have to take it to the shop to see if they cant pull it with a press, already tried regular puller, impact gun, and propane heat to try and warm it up a little no success. But yes it will require a gm dealer to reflash the ecu
You cant deny someone warrantee because you "figure" they are gonna race because they bought parts from GM, that were tested by GM, and installed by GM.
they could try. but good luck explaining that one to a judge.

edit: don't think for a minute certain dealerships won't bring your car in hold it for a few days and then refuse warranty because they found signs of abuse.
Thanks for answering my questions guys.
btw, if a dealership tries to pull that sort of thing with your warranty (especially if it's the dealer you bought it from) call as many of the sales folks as you can and complain using the phrase "genuine GM" and "if you want my future business". Raise enough of a fuss, and I bet you they'll honor your warranty. If they don't, file complaints with the BBB and see if you can complain to Chevy about that dealer. These guys aren't stupid enough to lose someone who's bought a high end model (even if it's not a Tahoe) car from them (especially if they're the type to go and complain about it to whoever will listen) over repairs that are in the $500 range.

I just got my stage 2 in from my Dad's dealership in MI and he told me that part number brings up 1.5 hrs of labor, which most dealerships SHOULD charge (but don't have to). Some dealerships won't do it for that because they haven't done it before and don't think they can get it done in that amount of time and don't want to lose a bunch of $$$. I've called 5 different chevy dealerships in the OKC area today and the lowest anyone will do it for is 4.9 hrs. One shop even told me $700-900 for the f***ing install.
Bottom line is, GM recommends 1.5 hrs, some dealerships will do it for that and the ones that want to rip you off won't. I talked to the mechanic that installed one in MI and he told me to just do it myself, it's rather simple and bring it to the dealership and have them reprogram it (1.0 hr of labor). Don't worry, he said it will run bad, but a few miles will be fine to just get there and get it programmed.

I can do the whole kit and put the stage 2 tune on in about 80 minutes, included a drink break, but then again I don't think GM likes HP tuners used to get this stuff on thier cars.

EDIT: Try the pulley puller first but it might be on too tight.
Your dealership will cover the kit under warantee if you install it yourself but they wont cover you for the work you put into it. I got my local tech to do it in 2.5 hours, I figured it was worth it since I was pretty much the first with the kit installed, I didnt want to deal with any problems down the road. Once your done, drive down to the dealer smoothly and get the reflash (might charge you for labour thought)

If you can get the hub back off then take it and put in in an oven or hot plate for about 30 minutes then quickly put it on the shaft and you should be able to drive it on using a hammer and block of wood. Another method I used was to take a stud that will screw into the snout, heat the pully, have a nut and washers ready, put hub on with washers and nut then wrech the nut in pushing pully on.
yeah, so i got it heated and was runnin it on there with the bolt and washer method...i got it all but about 1-2mm from flush and am bustin bolts...i cant figure out how to get it the rest of the way on...any suggestions???i mean its so freakin close i cant stand it...
