Stainless LT header for the SC SS

If i can get Kooks to make us a stainless header. Would you consider buying it if the price was right?

What i'm thinking right now is 1 7/8ths primaries into a 3" collector.

Would it pass emissions? Doubt it
Would it make big gains? Probably

I've put in a call and an e-mail to kooks this morning and i'm waiting for a call back. Price for stainless would probably be around 500-600 dollars.

Anyone interested?

Sounds interesting.

Not sure how many people would buy it if it did not pass emissions though.

I'm sure with a HF cat it would pass everywhere except in Cali.

We in no way shape or form need a 1 7/8 header . i didnt even need a header that big on my trans am , and it was a 550 hp engine . I would down with a tuned stepped long tube with appropriately sized primaries . Kooks headers are AWESOME , and I would shell out the cash for them .

1 7/8ths was off the top of my head.

1 3/4ths i imagine would be fine as well.

Let me just say I will NOT be selling them.

I'm probably just going to let kooks use my car as a prototype if they are willing to do it.

SS is not needed when you have a header like TOGs. Theyre coating is more than enough for anything. TOGs has proven performance with a very reputable company. Honestly, ive never even heard of kooks.

Hands down best headers you can buy for an LS1, I know that much about them. Probably LT1's too. And I have a feeling that Kooks probably wouldnt want to deal with any other metal other than SS. Theyre main objective is to make the best quality and best performing part they can, cost be damned. And the best material for a header is SS. Plus the TOG's are shorties, and no offense to TOG but they arent anywhere near the quality and performance a Kooks header would deliver.
As a comparison....TOG's are to Kooks what a Pacesetter exhaust is to a Borla exhaust

Alittle update.

I just spent 20 minutes of my lunch on the phone with a Kooks rep.

If they would use my car as a prototype they could offer them up to whoever would want them.

I touched on 1 3/4th and 1 7/8th primaries and i could do whatever i would want. Ofcourse the 1 7/8th would be reserved for a race header but i'm tempted to start out with it because i do plan on going to a bigger blower.

They couldn't nail down a definitive price but she said that it would be in the ballpark of 500-600 dollars.

a 1 7/8" port would be about twice the size of the stock exhaust port , LOL

and with a port that big youll make peak power well over 7000 rpm , and loose any low end grunt you have

even 1 3/4" is pushing it for a street driven car

I'd buy one right now!

Custom Tubes Inc. is waiting on an SS to see if the header/downpipe needs to be modified. The prototype was fitted on a redline, there's said to be slight differences. I've been waiting forever, so I'd be willing to cancel for one of these.

Let me know what it takes, I'll send an email to Kooks if that'll help.

Thanks a lot!

This is exactly the way the LT1 F-body guys got Kook's long tube headers in several sizes and configurations ......is a forums like this . Are they offering to R&D a long tube header for our car , or are they only offering to build a long tube header just to fit our chassis in the primary size and collector size YOUR choosing ? Im only gonna really be interested if Kooks is gonna take the time and design the header themselves as theres alot more to a good long tube header than primary and collector size .

exactally. i wouldnt pay for something built to some random guys specs just because it had the kooks name on it. id pay for kooks engineering because i know they wont put out something that doesnt work.

exactally. the irony here is that its basically impossible to mod a car and stay legal in cali so you mind as well go WAY illegal. same consequences if you have illegal intake or a swap to a 427. they still take your car.

if im doing anything im goin WAY illegal. test pipe, cam, i wonder if edilbrock will come out with a race head for the 2.0?
