Question Stock to 3" pulley Qeastions

I know there have been some treads about this subject running around but I couldn't find them in the search and the ones that I found do not have the Q/A's that I need.

My first Question is: Is it possible to take the stock pulley off without removing the supercharger? I just want to go with a stock mounting 3" pulley.

Question #2: Can you run the 3" pulley safely with an after market intake? I remember seeing some threads that some people said it would work and others saying it won't but no real answers. Any info would be great. Thanks Chad

#1: no. you need to remove the supercharger and use a pulley puller to remove the stock pulley.

#2: from what others have said, it is fine to run a 3" pulley safely. im not the expert on this, but as long as you are not going smaller than 3", you will be fine.

Totally agree ^^^ I ran a 3" pulley for about 3 months on the stock injectors and PCM. I only have one thing to say...What are you waiting for!!!! Put it on...you'll love it!! I am partial to the ZZP system only because that's what I've been using and so far so good. I have a 3", 2.85" and 2.7". Good luck!!!

don't do it with an intake you'll be running ont he lean side at that point. cat may go out quicker on you from running leaner.

You will be out of injector with the 3". I was when I had mine. By the time I hit 5,000 rpm I was already at 100% injector duty cycle.

Well I am waiting to see if it is 100% safe with the aftermarket intake, and I am over 2,000 miles away from home.

do you have any sort of wideband sensor?

if so then i say go for it. at least you can see for yourself if you are going to have any problems.

or just wait and do it the right way. (i.e. smaller pulley and tune when you have the funds)

It's safe but 3" is the lowest you will want to go.

INTENSE advised me to go no lower than a 3.1" on stock injectors and PCM. I ran my car like that for a good while, with no issues.

I also ran BK7REs gapped to .35, with a 2.9" on there for a weekend, and had no problems. In retrospect, this was probably a bad idea....

I never checked my IDC, or my AFRs. I'd go with a 3.1", or just wait until you can get stage 1 and a MPS, or stage 2.

By the way, there is no 3", or whatever pulley that fits the stock hub that Im aware of. You're going to have to go with something aftermarket.

I have been running a 3" pulley for at least 10,000mi and I have been running an aftermarket intake for probably 20,000mi and I have had no problems at all. My a/f ratios are pretty good and I do not read any knock.

With running 3" pulley you should invest in:

-1 Step colder plugs

-2 GM's smaller belt (made a huge diff. in throttle response)

-3 These 2 are not crucial but are good to have: AEM Wideband a/f ratio guage and Aeroforce Scan Guage

I thought that ZZP hat a 3" pulley that would fit the stock hub.

Like I said, I have no idea.....
Your best bet honestly is just to save up and get Stage 2, or make a Stage 2 by getting stage 1 and a mps. That will give you the most "bang for your buck".

Yea, ZZP makes a 3" pulley for our cars. Also, it will be perfectly safe to run it with a step colder plugs. Save the extra dough, get a 3" pulley, 42lb/hr injectors, harness, smaller belt, and an Intense Re-flash and BAM there you have your GM stage 2 for much less! Just my $.02

Do you understand our pulley is press on, not a hub system? If you plan on doing anything later, like smaller pulley and bigger injectors, I suggest going with a modular pulley system and just running a big pulley on it for now. That way you can always go smaller very easily in the future.

The onley thing with your 3" pulley is that I would have to buy the pulley system. I think I am going to go that rout anyway.

Ok, good deal, just wanted to make sure. Some other folks posting made it sound like they could sell you a ring and it would work. But it defintiely won't without a hub. I vote for a 3" and a 2.5" ring on an Intense hub. That way later when you want 60lb injectors you will be ready to rock.

I think I am going to go with a hub system now due to the fact that I think I am going to start piecing a kit together over time and find someone to give me a good custom tune. I want to build up to like a stage 4 from intense, but there kit has some things that I don't want to do like the machining of the snout. I have done a little research to day and I think I am going to go with the ZZP hub because you can go down to a 2.6 without machining the snout, from what they say.

I was looking around a adding things up and I believe I can make stage 4 for about $100 cheaper ultimately depending on the tune.

Tune is a important part of the whole sceme of things. Im sure you can find someone near you wtih HPTuners that will give you a tune for a fair price though. Also, the
ZZP 2.6" is supposed to fit the stock snout without any machine work. Some have had no problems with this, others have had clearance issues. You may want to consider machining it just in case. (You are removing the S/C to install the MPS anyway, so why not?)
