well my straight pipe was kind of a mishap. The muffler connection to the exhaust fell off and the car was LOUD AS HELL. It was really irritating and you can not even hear the supercharger. It also felt like it lost a lot on the low end but a slight gaing up top. I put it back together and feel that it runs better with a muffler. Its also much quieter.

Yeah he won't have a backpressure problem...

Restriction = Backpressure

A catatlytic converter is a restriction on your exhaust system, somewhat. It's job is to clean the exhaust by catching excess fuel thats in your exhaust stream...but thats not all. Your cats job is also keeping the exhaust tone down as well.

By removing your catalytic converter, it will be a more negative than positive.

Well he said "bypass to the muffler" so I'm assuming he's bypassing something to get to the muffler...so bypassing the catalytic converter. Also, most of the time, when people say "straight pipe" they typically no cat and sometimes no cat & muffler.

Oh ok my bad.... Ok now the question is why just bypass the cat and not the muffler too?

I just thought I'd give those who are really interested in what a catalytic converter does, a link to follow, since it's a little more involved than oxidizing unburned hydrocarbons (not "catching excess fuel." You make it sound as though it's a "catch can" of some sort.)

It behooves you to be more thorough in your description when making comments like "be a more negative than positive."

I wasn't trying to make it sound like a catch can but I was trying to simplify it.

Why are you so focused on how I describe things? If you can explain it better, than do so...worrying about me isn't helping anything...for the most part I'm pretty descriptive in my posts on most forums but whatever.

You can put a strait pipe in replacement of your cat as long as you don't have emissions testing in your area. Its usually for offroad only if you do modify it like that. It will be louder and it will flow better and give a definite increase in horsepower. You may however get a o2 sensor error code. There are a few diff ways to get around that also. You can have a local exhaust shop whip one up for about 25.00. However they may not install it for you.

Why stop now?

Pardon me for having high standards for you. Perhaps I'll seclude myself from your posts with expectation of them being too "simple", and uninformative. After all, it's your computer. Who cares what you do with it?

Umm

I think you're issue isn't with me...it's with other people bro. Atleast I TRY and be descriptive. Sorry for not writing a book for every post I make.

Sometimes writing a bunch of big words won't get through to someone, so you try and simplify it for them to make it a bit easier to understand. You yet to point out where I was wrong but just saying that I made it seem like something that it wasn't.

I swear, if it's not one thing it's another thing that I'm doing wrong...I can't believe someone is getting on me because I didn't type enough information...

The catalytic converter doesn't "catch" ****. That's incorrect and you shouldn't post it regardless of how "simple" it may seem to you.

And nobody said you had to type of ******' book. Post a link, as I did, to a website that did all the typing for you, that way you're giving correct information. If nobody benefits from it then it's their loss.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. But make sure it's really water, not another horse's ****.

What's up my ass is people misinforming other people. Yea. It gets under my skin. Don't like it? Don't do it.

You seem like a rather intelligent young man. Why do you act like this? Is it necessary to start pulling out the "personal comment" card? So I cussed ("cursed" is what a witch does). Big ******' deal. It's not a personal comment.

Now... If I told you to **** off, or eat **** and die, then it would be personal. But I haven't. I'm not that kind of guy. I only do that to someone I don't like, and only face-to-face. Doing that on the internet is as pointless as bench racing.

I wasn't intending to misinform anyone but trying to simplify a subject. Was I wrong? Maybe but my intentions weren't for wrongful intent...all I'm saying is if you think I was wrong for doing or saying what I said, understandable but I think it was your reaction to it that wasn't really necessary. I could easily have corrected you without giving you a thumbs down and a link.

I just think that this went kind of off the handle for no reason cause it didn't need to come to it. The whole cursing thing I see is that if we are both adults, lets talk like adults, no need to curse even if it's not towards me, no need to curse. That's me though.

Wasn't trying to be personal but just saying that "getting under your skin" and attacking me wasn't necessary. I don't think I needed this attack because I'm am one of the few people actually attempting to help people on this forum and you pop up out of no where to just jump down my throat...well thats how it seems.

Anyways, this is just too dramatic. You win. Nothing personal just think this went in the wrong direction really fast. I'm thirsty...need some horse ****...

Hey there, don't worry about noise!!! Its not as noisy as everyone thinks, **** if anything its quiet compared to the crap thats farting around out there!!! I've had a straight pipe since my car was new, well almost as when I bought my SSN/A I had a **** muffler and the dealer just bolted on a new muffler!
I always felt the stock one held the car back and I believe I was right .. I say keep your old muffler and just use muffler clamps to rebolt it back on if you don't like your straight pipe.. It does get a little annoying on the highway with the noise but damn it sounds good and I've had noone call me rice or some other **** name! If anything I get more "sounds great" sounds sexy" from one guy ,lol.. then anything.. On a S/C I have no idea wtf a straight pipe would sound like or do? I think you'll like it I have a sound clip in videos albeit doesnt sound as good as it does in person.. Its the orange Cobalt.. Hope you convert to straight pipe Happy New Year bro

What if you just replace the muffler with a resonator, wouldn't that give you the flow your looking for, while maybe at the same time being a little less louder than with a straight pipe?
