supercharger maintanance

Just a reminder to all to change your Superchargers oil. its only a few oz's, 8oz i think two little bottles at your Chevy dealer. They will run you like 10 or 12 bucks for both, not that much but very important in keeping your charger working properly. I change mine around every 10,000miles. Just to keep it fresh because i love boost, and i am sure most of you others do as well. just lookin out for you and those who didn't know.

The drain and filler plug is very easy to see right when you open your hood. Its on the snout housing right where it bolts on to the blower. the plug uses an allen wrench 3/16. You will have to remove the charger to do this but its 4 allens to remove the charger and a few sensors not hard at all i am sure most know this already, otherwise when you go in for your next maintanance service ask about it.

If anything this is a reminder i didn't find any posts on this so i figured i would put it out there.

The only thing is...

The oil only needs to be changed 100,000 miles...

But thanks for the heads up!

I see a post like this on all threads about changing the oil.

If you believe everything you read then yes change it at 100,000

stock you would be fine

any pully size drops will need to change it more often.
Ichanged mine at 48,000... it NEEDS it

these threads do more harm than good

DO NOT put in 8 oz of oil

you can change as often as you like, but you are wasting your money changing it less than 100kmiles.

Put in only 3.4 oz of oil

More oil = more heat due to oil windage.

for all those who dont know what they are doing, including the original poster, please dont make statements that are based on your opinion, you could end up causing problems for another person who reads this.

please provide proof that you need it. Did you send it out for oil analysis? do you know the TAN and TBN? what was the metal content break down? did it oxidize? What was the conclusion of your oil analysis?

if you dont know the answer and just say "it looks or smells bad", then it is only your opinoin.... they dont make the oil to look pretty or smell good.. they design it to perform in a supercharger for life. This isnt Mobil 1 oil...

I changed mine at 20,000 when I did my pulley and plugged my silencer holes... it kind of poured out when I pulled the blower apart, so I had no choice.

along with tvs ss ...

your supercharger oil should be good for the life of the supercharger. you should not need to change it at all, unless you are porting the s/c and you have no choice, or are servicing the internals of the s/c itself, which most people will never have to do.

if you do feel like changing it, 100k miles would be the time to do it (smaller pulley sizes being the only exception). you are wasting your money if you do it any sooner

i've read 3.5 ozs

and i don't know if doing it sooner than 100k is a waste cuz i would think that cleaner oil would do better than dirty oil would

just rest assured that you probably don't need to do it. but if you feel the need, by all means, go for it

use common sense man. Mechanical parts need lubricating. No i did not do an oil analysis like most people dont. Now does $15.00 every 50k miles going to kill my wallet, or car? or anything? NO. SO why get so worked up? its not like changing your cars oil which could add up in cost over times. But were talking minimal cost, minimal maintenance, so why wouldnt you?

In my OPINON (yes) i did say it needed the oil change. My oil was black. New oil is clear. Cleaner oil runs cooler... this dosnt take a scientist... Now could have the oil lasted another 50k? ya sure.. but my cars oil can last 20k on a oil change to right?

I dont care if you change it every 4 miles... but what i do care about is providing your opinion as fact to other unknowing members. The FACTS remain the same and almost every supercharger can go 150,000k+ miles without an oil change. Smaller pulley or not...

The main problem i see is that everyone is reccomending to OVERFILL the supercharger, this does much more harm than not touching the oil.

If you want to change your oil, fine. But DONT claim that you know more than the engineers who designed it and DONT tell people it needs more than 3.4 oz. Because i dont want some poor CSS.net member to listen to your advice and think that he/she is required to change the oil, and then overfill and cause damage to the supercharger.

just an FYI... after 1000 miles, your oil will be just as black as the oil you changed out.

Anyone tryed adding Z-Max to there oil? I run the Moble1 all the time but I added Z=Max to it this last oil change and notice the engine revs faster and my boost comes up quicker.

your preaching to the wrong quire man

I NEVER said how much to put in, in fact I said it only took me about 3oz.
I think you got my post confused with some one else. and I never claimed I knew more then the engineers. I said simply, "at 50k the oil NEEDS to be changed" and you started a rant about oil analysis and on and on and on... and how im doing more harm then good?

he just ranted both of them together.

you will be doing more harm than good if you over fill your s/c with too much oil..

But the whole thing is, at 50k, the oil DOESNT NEED to be changed.

By all means if you want to do it, what ev, its not gonna hurt. But the probability of hurting something by changing it prematurely increases.
