supercharger mods
supercharger mods
right.... have been doing research on this forum and have a few questions
have read loads on people saying DO NOT port the supercharger, then have read some people say do port the supercharger.... so what is the answer? leave it alone or port it and if so what are the gains?
i recently re-built my engine with low comp pistons etc for safety reasons, after having piston detonation. this has limited my power but i am happy aslong as the engine will alst a long time!
now i am currently running a 2.9 pulley, is it worth going any smaller for more boost? if so what size? is there a chart of psi = pulley size etc
the cooling mods i have are: dual pass mod, full size pro alloy charge cooler radiator and a 2.5litre header tank
i have a full 4-1 manifold, 200 cell cat, straight through backbox which is full 2.5" system, which is however become restrictive at above 6,500rpm so i need to go for a 3" full system other than that, i have a ported head, regrinded cams, bigger valves, dual valve springs, ported inlet manifold, with low comp overbore pistons, eagle rods, balance deletion, lightened flywheel etc.
if you can help with my questions then i would be very apreciated

You can gain some by porting the inlet of the supercharger not a lot of gain but some. DO NOT port supercharger exit flange. According to EATON if you port the exit flange you will bring the supercharger out of efficiency and will actually cause you to lose some power. What size injectors do you have if you only have 42's don't go any smaller on the pulley otherwise I wouldn't go smaller than a 2.7 otherwise you begin to overspin the supercharger
thanks, please can you state the reasons why?
many thanks
edit - i am running 470cc injectors, not sure what lb they are though...
will have to look into meth, as not sure how many people have done this mod in the uk
many thanks

2.8 seems to be the best pulley. It gives the best boost level to efficency ratio. Some guys will agree and some will disagree....I had 2.8 and never changed it until i went to the TVS and i was happy with it.
I think 470cc is 42lb injectors? someone wanna make sure?
I know of a couple people in the uk with meth. Devils Own Meth Injection seems to be the most popular. I was running that on my cobalt, then sold the cobalt and now im running it on my 370z and love it. Its stable, safe and does alot of help...especially if you go to a 2.8" pulley. Just make sure it doesnt run empty. Of course you need to tune for it.
tuning seems to be a problem as our ecu is not cracked over hear so i will definately have to go for a standalone ecu, which i cant justify as off yet.
so 2.8" pulley it is then, also has anyone tried changing the crank pulley? if so many gains?
many thanks

if you go with the OTTP Stage 1 kit...comes with 2.8" pulley, 60lb injectors, either a smaller belt or bigger tenstioner (your choice) and a tune...although you would still have to get your hands on hptuners to load it i think.
You can get a crank pulley, i believe its overdrive that supercharged cars require...cant remember, MRZ and Cobalt Addiction sells them. They do produce approx 4-5hp...but you have to be careful. If they are harmonically balanced right, they could really do some damage.
to be safe if you will be going to a 2.8 pulley step the injectors up to 60lbs, 42lbs injectors on 2.8 will max out the injectors and starve the engine. and the gains you will see by porting the supercharging are not big enough for the hassle/risks. thats just me though.
hm... the problem is then.. i need a 2.8pulley but with bigger injectors which is unfortunate because without standalone i cannot fit bigger injectors..... so really i should get a bigger exhaust system and be happy with it until i can justify a standalone ecu and then might aswell just get a harrop lol

even if there isn't I'm sure you could purchase one of those tuning suites
ottp can most likely hook you up with a tuned ecu

i guess the question is what kind of car do you have?
this is me and my car

it is an ecotec 2.2 which has been rebuilt and supercharged
is there anyway of checking to see if someone has the exact same modifications as me but with a perfect hptuners map?
what ecu do they run?

what ecu does hptuners work with then? if its a stock 2.0lsj or 2.2lsj then i will still need to purchase the wiring harness and ecu off of a cobalt in the US therefore might aswell go standalone with a ecu that can be bought and rempaed in england
well there in lies the problem lol theres no 2.2 lsj that i'm aware of even in the vauxhall while you might be a 2.2 l61 or something of that nature. from looking at your older threads it is an l61 that you supercharged.. in which case i'd talk to trifecta performance and see what he can do .. do you have any idea what ecu you have ?
do you have a maf sensor? i'm going to go out on a limb and say it'd be closet related to the L61 in the cavaliers and if thats the case HPtuners does supposed cavi's now whether or not you're exactly like a cavi is a different story..
if it's like the cavi then Jbody forum would have some tuning insite for you as gm made a sc kit for them.. It appears you had courtenay sport tune your car.. they should be able to compensate for the larger injectors / what did they use to remap you ecu
?

my mistake it is indeed an l61, and yes i had courtenay sport rempa it but however they have come to halt with remapping capabilities as with the harrop build they cannot get more than 310bhp measured at the flywheel.. and cannot tune bigger injectors than the 470cc ones which is where my problem is....
i wil however investigate this over tuning company, so thank you very much for that and i am running a maf sensor on the inlet manifold, the one on the supercharger is blanked off.
thanks
Joe
