Supercharger noise...

How many of you have noisy superchargers? I have a rattle in mine and from time to time it gets extremely noisy (To the level that I can hear it inside my car over the radio). I took it to the dealership today and the said it was the way the blades inside the supercharger mesh together and the it was normal. I can accept that if it was quieter but when I can here it from time to time from 15 or 20 feet away with the hood down it concerns me. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I hope it gets worse before the warranty is up so I can get it replaced...

Stupid idiot mechanic told me it was the catalytic converter. So when I picked it up I pulled the service manager aside and said there's no way this is a catalytic converter because the noise is coming from the top of the motor. He came out and listened to it and agreed. However I'm still gonna let them replace the converter because I'm gettin a hesitation upon moderate accelleration so I'm hoping that might clear it up some...

Its easy to replace man, just take off the snout, replace with one of the other heaton m-90 aftermarket couplers and off u go. I think zzp has one.

Hes talking about the supercharger coupler. The holes in the coupler that link the snout and rotors wears and begins to rattle. Intense has them too.

what he said....

it will sound like marbles are in your supercharger. Most people say it is normal but it isnt, another reason why people fail so badly on this site.

replace the coupler and all will be well. Get a bottle of SC oil from the dealership before you do it though.

I'm going to make them do it. That's what the warranty's for.

Funny you guys described it as marbles in the supercharger because that's exactly I described it to the service writer and he looked at me like I was smokin crack LOL

I believe you. Thanks so much!

Is there a way they can verify this without taking the whole thing apart? Will there be play in the coupler that they will be able to feel?

Dude hows your car doing with a 2.7 and 42lbs injectors? i was running a 2.8 with 42s and thats what made me crack my 4# piston in half

Could be the injectors, they make a ticking noise if you have bigger ones

i wouldnt run anything lower than 3.0 with 42s

it would take ALOT to destroy the motor (back to back WOT pulls) to destroy this ecotec with a 2.9

My car is completely stock outside of a Hurst short throw shifter, and Ignalls ETD, and some gauges so I'm sure it's what rrutter81 said because he even used the exact same words I used to describe it.
