Supercharger overhaul

I just hit 31,000 miles and I've been running 3", 2.8", and now 2.6" pulleys since about 4,000 miles. I want to do an overhaul on the blower and the only thing I can't find to buy are the snout bearings. Anyone know where I can find them?

why are you doing this?

you'll typically do more damage than good unless you have damaged your bearings already.

Seriously, your bearings shouldnt have any problems at this early date.

I was just told that running pulleys under 3" on our blowers kill the bearings.

I can see the need if the blower had 100k miles on it. Your not even past it's infancy yet. My advice is to wait.

I've been running a 2.6 for 20000 plus and no issues with the charger.

Bearings are rated by load (belt tension) and # of revolutions...

your not changing the load.. just increasing the # of revolutions used (provided your not exceeding the speed limit of the bearings)

not sure what the recomended intervals are for the m62... but for the m90, every 50k is good for a oil change.

umm... you should never have to change your SC oil.. unless you have LOTS of miles on your car (i.e. 150k +)

I had to re-grease my bearings in my blower, took the blower apart, re-greased the bearings, and re-filled the oil. There was NO grease left in them.

do not take your blower apart. its a contained unit, theres not going to be any need for an oil change or anything. i seriously think i've only ever seen 1 s/c get the oil replaced, and it was on a gtp with 150k on it

If its a contained unit, then how the hell did i take it apart? The blower badly needed grease, when we took it aprt there was no grease in it, thats why it was squeling, so we re-packed the bearings with grease, took out the old oil, and added new oil, you sound like my dealer "contained unit" They dont know ****.

maybe you should get a dictionary and look up the word contained. i didnt say it wasnt servicable, ass. when i say contained unit i mean its a self lubricating system, not that you cant take it apart.

The oil in the M62 on the LSJs never neeeds to be changed. Eaton says the same thing, and they know more about superchargers than anyone here.

i have no idea. you've obviously had your blower off to port it and put new pulleys on it so its hard telling what happened to it. for all I know it could have been over looked at the assembly line and never filled with oil initially.

There is also a thermal factor. Higher temperature will cause the lubricants to degrade sooner. I am not aware of many oils that will not start to coke before 350 F. A 2.6 pully can easily put the blower outlet temps above this. It seems to me that a blower subjected to hard use should be relubricated more often than one that is not. It's just a question of how often.

Eaton is also out to turn a profit. Keep that in mind.
