Thinking of buying HPtuners

I was thinking of buying the standard edition of HPtuners. I would just use it for my car. The total cost would be around $1000 dollars for me. Because I currently dont own a laptop to run it on.

My car is going to stay stock for another year though. Until the warrenty runs out. (Actually, Another 8 miles. So closer to a few months.) So for awhile I would just be learning it.

Basicily im just looking for people to say. "Yeah man! Go for it!"

Could you elaborate further? I am mechanically inclined, but not experienced on tuning with computers. I understand what the datalogger does, but does the professional one give you more accuracy and options? Thanks, and sorry for being a PITA!

Another question on that link it says "What does the MPVI Pro interface allow me to do?
With our Pro interface, you can use 0-5v signals from various sensors such as EGT, Wide Band, fuel pressure and others for sensor input in our scanner. You will have real time data from those sensors right next to your standard scan tool data such as TPS, RPM, MPH, etc."

The various sensors its refering to (EGT, Wideband O2, fuel pressure, etc) meaning just aftermarket 3rd party sensors someone would install? Or do you need the Pro version to monitor those sensors if they came stock with the vehicle from the factory as well?

name a supported GM vehicle that came stock with an egt, wideband o2 or fuel pressure sensor.

Im sorry I don't have intrigute knowledge of Hptuners supported GM vehicles. Nor do I know what vehicles GM produces that Hptuners supports that would monitor those functions in their ECM's stock. It was just a simple question.

His point is no GM came stock with these. With the interface you can wire them into it and log those peramaters as well. hte main one you want to waith is a wideband o2 which you would also need to purchase and install

fact is there are no gm's with these items as factory equipment to my knowledge...you would need to purchase & wire in these items, but instead of having to try and eyeball them you can log them directly into hptuners along side of RPM, SPEED & hundreds of other scanable parameters

With the data logger in the pro verison would I actually be able to program my car using my desktop? Or just record and view the data?

Once I have the software I'll be ok to install it on my desktop and my future laptop right?

(I know I should be posting these questions over on HPtuners Fourms. but i belong to so many forums these days. And im sure there is plenty of interest here.)

I have the software installed on several computers including my laptop & desktop so thats not an issue.

You would need either a laptop or a VERY long USB cord from your desktop to actually load the files. New laptops run $399-$449 new nowadays.

As for posting here...you'll get your questions answer much quicker over there as I am rarely over here & I tend to miss alot of posts even when I am.

Thanks
Bill

it will probably be the best "mod" you'll ever make...unlike a pulley, catback exhaust, etc which you can eventually grow out of...this "mod" grows WITH you. With credits enough to tune up to 4 different vehicles even if you decide to sell your cobalt to buy something else 6 months or a year from now you'll still have your tuner and if you buy GM it'll probably be supported. Ford scan & tune is on the way at no extra charge, and same with dodge soon to follow...so no matter what vehicles you purchase in the future it will follow offering the same functionality

have fun!

Well I wish they would come out with a HP tuner lite which would be cheaper. Damn I do not have that much money laying around. I mean for a computer program shouldnt cost $600.
