you've burnt up a muffler bearing, buy 4 gauges and it'll fix the problem

Usually ticking means expanding/contracting metal so I would agree it could be overheating of some sort.

If your intercooler pump is not working, your intake temps could be sky high. I'd check that. Listen for it when you put the key in the ACC position, then feel the hoses for pressure/flow.

Check the IC pump before it performs a check on you and your checking account

it could be injectors my car has a slight ticking....but the ecotecs have a high pressure fuel system and thats the sound of the injectors kicking on and off.....at least that is what my service desk guy said at the dealership....he said the noise is even louder on the 2.0 it has actually scared people away on the lot from buying them

Only the LNF (08+ SS's) have the loud injector tick and the high pressure fueling system. The LSJ's don't have that, because they aren't Direct Injection.

I'm almost positive that its the exhaust.

Do this test:

Go out and beat on it till it ticks, and then turn the motor off. Does it still tick? If so, its your cat-back. Its just the metal expanding and contrasting due to heat.

If it doesn't tick anymore... then you know you have an internal motor problem. Which could be lifter tick. The question then becomes, do you have a proper level of Oil in there?

Usually lifters will tick upon initial start up... and go away. And if they don't go away, they're usually a constant tick. Its probably not the lifters, but it certainly could be.

it only takes like a minute or less for the catback to cool off. mine stops ticking like 20 seconds after i shut it off.
