i ordered mine from crate engine depot and they still havent sent ittt!!!!

 

If ya don't get it soon, ya need to call them and threaten to whoop some aSS!

 

Anyone who does this and it cures their problem, post it on here or on the "how to" I put up about it in the "how to" section to maybe encourage others with the same problem to go ahead and do it and save themselves some money.

 

I suggest replacing the timing chain with JBodyPerformance timing chain. Stock sucks

 

Really? I haven't heard about any timing chain failures since i've been here. Tensioners and there was a tsb for some bad rollers but havent heard anything bad happening to the chain itself. Did you have a problem , or see a bad spot or design issue?

 

I haven't heard anything either. I had to run mine for quite a while on a bad chain tensioner due to a piece of **** job with no stability and decided to go ahead and swap the chain and one of the guides. But even after quite a while of running with no tension, the chain looked ok. Just went ahead and swapped it for good measure since it'd been tensionless for a few thousand miles.

 

I meant to say timing chain tensioner. Jbodyperformance has a heavy duty one.

 

im putting my new GM tensioner in next weekend, it looks like a very nice piece-totally redesigned from the old one. also-try RESTORE oil additive from autozone. I put some in my car about 4 days ago, and havent heard the noise yet...

how do you know for sure this is the problem i dont want to replace a part that is not the problem? any ideas?

 

the sound....if it only makes it at low rpms....and when you rev it it goes away.... doesent make the noise all the time, but when it does it sounds like a knock....replacing the ensioner is just the first step, and well worth the 50 bucks....if the sound is real bad, the whole assembly may need replaced

 

The sound will be a constant rattle that worsens with higher rpm. When listening closely at idle, you will notice that the rattle is coming primarily from the accessory end (passenger side) of the engine, in the timing cover area. If your tensioner has never been changed before, it's not a bad idea to go ahead and change it anyway if you've got the extra cash because the original design sucks.

 

If the tensioner is bad you will know , it is loud and doesn't sound like anything you have heard in the motor before . You have to remember that the lsj is a noisy motor , especially at startup .

 

well around 12,000 miles ago my dealer replaced it for me and my lsj is making noice again when i open the hood but when im inside the car and have it in gear it sound like im draging a chain and i only hear it on accleration if i have a constant speed i dont hear anything but when its not in gear it sounds fine i dont think this is the problem do yall?

I don't even care anymore! Every time i tried to get them to fix it they told me only if i can replicate it and finally one day when i was getting something else fixed the noise came, they gave me some bull **** excuse why the could fix! So i will just let the whole damn thing break and then take it too them. I really just don't care!

 

im going to change mine b/c i think this is my problem if not in the future i wont have to worry about this but my question is do i need to do this while changing oil or what? because if i just got straght for changing it my guess it that as soon as i pull it out a crap load of oil will go everwhere? am i right or worng?

 

bump. Will oil drain when the tensioner is pulled? I need an oil change but I don't want to change it if it will waste

 

Very little oil if any at all will drain when you pull the tensioner. No worries.

I think mine is beginning to have the same problem. So far the past week intermitantly if I'm stopped and the engine is idling, I hear almost a light tapping/knocking noise very clearly. When I accelerate it goes away. From reading the posts and discussions, could this my problem as well? If so, I know it can be serious, but is the car safe to drive? At least till I can get it fixed, which will be ASAP.

Don't know if someone may have already answered about being safe to drive or not, forgive me for reasking, I was paying more attention to the noise/concern and how it can be fixed. Thanks.
