Tire life ??

Question

My SS / SC has about 29000 KM ---- and the fires are less than 2mm in the front . DEalership was very surprised that they were so low so soon.

Anyone else had their tires wear this fast --- I have had the car just over a year.

Anyone know where to get other 215 45r-18 tires for a good price ?

if they're that new, they should be under treadwear warranty, i'd think.

yah they're shitty when it comes to the tire life.
when you switch tires change them to 225/40/R18's you'll get better prices on tire, cause they're more common. that and get a diffenent tire.

use: www.tirerack.com as a reaserch tool they have a whole bucnh of tires and all kinds of rating and comparissons

I have 20,000 miles on my car (approx 32,000 km) with the stock tires, and they do wear fast. I am at 4/32 tread (3 mm) so I have maybe 10,000 more miles (16,000 km) until I hit the tread bars. I drive very good on my tires, almost never spinning them at all, and I still have almost worn them out. The last car I had (a cavalier Z24) I didn't have to replace the tires until 80,000 miles. The Pirellis are just very soft.

The best place I have seen to get the stock tires from is tirerack dot com, $185 a piece I believe.

don't buy the stock ones again they're too soft.
you can get better, for cheaper and they'll last longer

Haha, you guys getting 20K out of a set. I had mine for 11,000 miles. Then i went to BFG KDW2, 225/40/18. BEST upgrade ever to my car. Cheaper, longer lasting, more grip, awesome wet weather performance, and consistent grip through the life of the tire. My pirellis were getting hard and slippery by 8,000 miles. I drive hard, but damn, less than 10,000 miles and stock tires were getting bad?? I would not buy anything by pirelli.

are all 4 of your tires that worn? what is your driving style? do you rotate your tires?

to me 20K in tires is fairly good for a sticky summer tire ....

I had BFG COMP T/A's on my VR4 GALANT and never saw more than a 10K life span!!

I drive aggressively but the stockers has one of the worst treadwear ratings on ANY tire. I bought the eagle F1's and have put +20,000kms on them and they barely have signs of wear.

1010tires

Pirelli's
Treadwear 1.9/5

Eagle F1's
Treadwear 3.8/5

The front 2 are really bad both tred and sides. -- the back 2 are low too.

I will look into some of the options posted ---

I know that it wasnt even 5K on the car before they started to loose the grip.

As for the driving style ..... well .... its a good thing that I'm a woman .... we get off those tickets

wow I'm at 18,000 miles with quite a few track passes and my tires are still fine... more then enough tread left on em... just gotta rotate them every 5,000-8,000 miles to get the most out of them
and oh yeah, don't drive like an animal all the time.

got about 35,000 kms out of mine and then I got General Exclaims UHP's on tire rack 2 weeks ago. 225/40/15 and I'm happy with those. ordered on tire rack and drop shipped them to a garage across at niagara falls. drove across to the USA changed tires and came home again. Simple and saved $300

Mine lasted 16k, and that's with my winter tires on for about 4k of that, which even now have no wear with more miles on them than my summer tires.

Do the F1's fit on the stock tires with no problems? I dont know a whole lot about the measurements of tires, but the F1's are a little different from the stock:

I went with the 225/40/18's the 235's have fit for alota ppl but sometimes there can be rubbing and the 225's fit better for a 7" rim but the 235's are a better size to stay close to stock diameter. Either way will work

Hate to bring up old threads, but my 05 sc just went in for inspection and i was informed that i need 2 new tires (i only have a little less then 12,000 miles) I am so pissed that these tires
A. suck in snow and rain for that matter
B. Have a short lifespan

/end rant

I also am waiting to see what kind they put on (my mechanics usually use bridgestones so i will have to see what kind they put on)

Decided to bump this since I didn't want to make a new thread. (YOU SEE THAT NEWBS, I SEARCHED, YOU NEED TO LEARN TO DO THE SAME THING!)

I'm at 25K miles and I plan to buy some new tires at the end of next year. So I should be at like 40K miles roughly. I consider that pretty good. But I don't drag race on them and i rotate them as I should.
