traction control

so im about to get new tires, and i decide to go behind home depot at 2 in the morning to have some fun with these old ones... i go about 35 and yank the e-brake and turn the wheel as hard as i can... my car seemed to stop me from turning that sideways and really gettin it. is there a traction control button or is it built in or is it just some kinda stability control or what???

Hmm that is odd. We do not have a traction control button and I am pretty positve we dont have active handling management or whatever it is called.

probably just the type of pavement or concrete that caused the tires to grip.

i think the ebrake just isnt tight enough. if you want to do it try taking your console off and tightening it up. i did it in my eclipse and it worked just fine and you also dont have to pull it up as much when your at a stop. just make sure you dont tighten it too much so when your riding down the road its rubbing.

welcome to american cars, we have parking brakes heh. they are not that strong they are not emergency brakes, which are meant to help u stop if brake failures, ours are designed to help us stay still in a parking lot lol

The ABS system isn't really doing anything unless you have the brake pedal applied, the parking brake is a simplie mechanical system, just a cable. There aren't any electrical signals being applied by it. We have an ABS control box that you can see between the fuse box and the intake tube under the hood, that is where all of the valve switching and control is done for the ABS. There is no traction control or stability control, its a Cobalt, not a Lexus! This is supposed to be Chevys cheap performance car, no room for fancy stuff like that. Basically I think it was a combination of tire grip and the fact that our parking brakes dont work that well. If I am parked facing uphill, even a tiny little bit and push in the clutch or have it in nuetral, with the brake set, I roll backward, unless I really pull up hard on the handle. I plan on tightening mine up pretty soon.
