not impossible, just expensive. your best bet is a 4t45e, now that the hhr is comming with a turbo automatic you could get stuff from one of those. you need the flex plate from the turbo hhr. the tranny you could use from a 2.2l or 2.4l, im guessing the turbo hhr is beefed up and would be ideal tho. need to find a 2.4l car for mounts, shifter, cable, console, axles, ect. id just run an aftermarket stacked plate tranny cooler instead of trying to source a rad big enough for the ss/sc that has a tranny cooler built in and fits the car.
now the hard part, and thats pcm controll. all transmissions built in the last 5 years, and anything that will bolt to an ecotec are funny electronic, including the 4t45e. screwing with a stock pcm and trying to get it to run the auto is pointless, your better off with an aftermarket stand alone transmission controller. you can get them to shift nice and smooth and when you get on it have it chirp the shifts, but it takes pacients to get it set up right. you may have a couple issues with the factory pcm, mainly differentces in the speed sensor signal (auto to 5 speed uses a different tooth count reluctor wheel, meaning it wont read correctly) but im sure hp tuners can solve that. the other thing would be your cruise controll and clutch switch, not 100% sure what you might need to do there to make the pcm happy but im sure it can be dealt with.
plan to spend on the north side of $5g, thats a lot to spend because you are tired of shifting gears.

Well the main reason was i thought it would hook better, plus i thought it would be faster.Because boost would not drop between gears.Plus im tired of shifting all the time.
first off, wouldnt need beefing, the 6t75 will more than hold the power of an ss/sc. 2nd, it would be impossible to make it work. the tcm (transmission controll module) is built into the transmission, 4 wires go to it, power ground and 2 data comunication wires. the tcm recieves a data signal with all the needed info from the pcm such as manifold pressure, throttle angle, engine coolant temps, ect. without being able to exactly emulate that data stream, it will forever be in limp mode. so far no aftermarket transmission controller would work with this tranny, and doing so would require massive changes to the valvebody and wiring the solonoids. not worth it.
OP if you want an auto the best way is to sell your car and buy a 2.4 and supercharge it, Really the only logical choice.
And for you guys asking why, Auto are faster/more constant, Its been proven time and time again, That being said i love my 5 speed
btw sharkey, i know the difficulties of using a 6t75. if you recall, i think i was the one who first brought it up to both you and maven in some thread back in the drivetrain section.
ive always known the dificulties of the 6t75, i learned about them in an ATRA training seminar about a year ago. its really no different of a system than any of the new gm 6 speeds, it was about 3 years ago that i first learned about the new gm system with the tcm mounted on the valvebody. but hey, better than the new vw tranny, when you have to change a speed sensor you have to replace the tcm as they are mounted on one unit.
