which tune....
which tune....
ok...some of you have looked at the thread I have about my cars dyno results.....so...i figured id start a thread on tunes......now just like the exhaust one I did....its going to be a poll w/ the pros and cons and why you use what you have...its open to all....even those like me on stock tune....Im not looking for wild or high output tunes being this is my daily driver....cops and I already dont get along....but id like some room to improve for light track days.....some "sprited" driving....but flexable enough to be civil on the street......I know about HP tuners and of course the GMPP kits being Im probaly going stage 2 route....but like I said....its in the research phase.....Ive spent the last couple of days going thru the search on here....it has somewhat enlightened me.....so have at it boys and girls....oh..... and if the vendors would like to chime in....that be a great help....
I have an INTENSE tune, people say its not really good though. Hasnt given me many problems. INTENSE reccomends 1 step colder copper core plugs for their tunes, as well as a gap of 0.040"
But hopefully before the summer is over, I'll have a ZZP Tune
I REALLY hope I can take my car to ZZP and have them Dyno and tune it on the spot. Otherwise I'll have to mail my PCM in like I did
to get my INTENSE tune.
Other places could be OTTP (Over The Top Performance)
They are on the oppsite side of the state as ZZP is.
Intense is down near Dayton Ohio, OTTP, is somewhere North of Detroit Michgian, while ZZP is near Grand Rapids Michgian,
I believe all three can email you the tune, and then you can use HP Tuners to upload that tune into your car, and/make adjustments
to it. Also you can mail them your PCM, they can tune it, and mail it back to you.
... also, I could be mistaken but,
From what I understand HP Tuners is just tuning software/hardware more like do it yourself.

The tune doesn't get you in trouble with the law, the right foot does
Even cars we've built with 400+whp drive incredibly smooth and nice around town. It's all in how you drive the car! More power doesn't necc mean poor drivability or the inability to drive slow still.

The cop reference wasnt due to law breaking....cops where I live just don't like cars like mine...not cobalts in general....there are a few up here one like mine minus the rims that have been confused with one that's doing something....it's more along the lines of easy to diag or adjust or whatever....my service extension is almost up....so just making sure it won't come back and bite me in the ass...plus since I'm in social....they are somewhat ******** when it comes to emissions and aftermarket products....
Yeah....it's one thing I know well....not saying anything bad about anyone...but this is my daily driver....work...pick up my kids....can't just trust it and hope it comes out ok....also...thanks to all for your input and ideas....
lol.....yeah Ive lived in socal my whole life except for about 7 years (army)....i plan on doing the tune last....still got a few parts to get....mostly exhaust and about 99% sure on the stage 2 kit....and that will proably do it...at least for now...
i just tuned a guy that had gmst2 and he had a intake only on it, well after my tune the guy litterally was amazed on my tune, i changed most of the mapping and had about 6 resions to it so about 3 hours but he said it felt alot faster, my main concern were the fuel trims, they were out 16% in some areas and 20+% in some so i took care of that, i have him running a afr of 11.5 and atiming of 25* in most areas and some 26* is others on the top end.. So getting a tune ontop of gmstg2 will make you quicker, just find a reputable tuner out there
yeah..thats what Ive been doing fo the last 3 days....right now....mods are typhoon intake only for the engine.....Ive mostly done the easy stuff....springs....slotted rotors/hawk pads...and when my extended service runs out.....then let the fun begin.....
