Turbo Setup.
Turbo Setup.
Hey guys and gals I have a couple questions for you all. I ran into an old buddy of mine who has a 2.4 auto cobalt with the hahn turbo kit. He is willing to sell the hahn turbo kit for 2 grand.
I know that I would need an intake manifold, bill from hahn said that the piping was the same but if someone could double check on that I would really appreciate it.
What I am wondering is, what power difference am I going to see with the gt2860rs over the s20g?
What kind of power will I be putting down with the gt2860rs with reasonable boost, say 8 to 10lbs.
What intake manifold do you guys recommend? Is there anything else that I would need for the kit to work, I already have the 60lbers.

I didn't plan on going with the 2.4 intake manifold lol. I don't have forged pistons so its going to be running low boost, I don't have a choice of the s20g or the 2860, if I get the kit I would be getting it with the 2860 as thats what he has.
Anyone have any idea what kind of power I would put down with the 2860? On the hahn website the kit puts down like 240whp on the 2.4 motor.

Yea dude... The hahn kit for the 2.0 is 15psi stock...
They have dynos of 22psi runs on stock motor.. you dont need forged pistons..
Thats probly the most youll get for that turbo.. Not much more than 300...
Unless you up the boost.. but youd be better off selling that turbo and buying yourself a bigger one.

A 20g isn't really what you want. You may flirt with 325 with the gt28 depending on tune and boost. I would look for a gt30r.... perfect turbo for a stock lsj IMO.
The 2.4 manifold won't work without some sort of modification for the crankcase vent. What I recently picked up is a lk9 manifold off of a Saab. It was less than 150 new with a gasket from a dealer. It needed some dremel work to match the TB port. And a spacer to hold your TB up off of it. But, if you want a cheap nice flowing intake manifold that wont require modification that's about the only choice out there.

If I buy the kit I am going to stick with the gt2860rs for the time being. If I don't put out enough power with it I will upgrade it. Do you guys think 2grand for a turbo kit minus the intake manifold is a good deal or no?
i think if i am going to do it, i should do it right the first time and just buy the hahn intake manifold. I am really thinking about going hahn level 5 though.
Are there any other options for going turbo besides going with hahn?

Yea it took me a while, haha...

just FYI, the hahn 2.2/2.4 kit you're referring to is actually Garrett's kit. Hahn is a vendor for Garrett. Thats why this kit uses Garrett turbochargers instead of Hahn's preferred Mitsu turbos like Hahns stg5 kit.
the 2860 is fairly small, especially when you compare it to the s20g. But its still a good price for a cheap kit (i think its $3200 without tuning). You can always swap turbos later if you want more power, but it wont have the parts that the hahn stg 5 kit has, like the intake manifold for one.

I have the SC delete part and the endplate block off for sale still so you can use the stock intake manifold. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/parts-66/s-c-bypass-adaptor-lsj-turbo-swap-129610/
Sooo basically I have thought about it and it goes down like this. IF I buy this kit for 2 grand, install we will say is 500 bucks just for the hell of it, thats 2500 and I will need an intake manifold lets say i grab the hahn manifold for like 800 thats 3300 dollars, plus switching to the s20g later on in life, thats another 800 atleast and thats 4100 dollars. At that point I might as well grab the hahn stage 5 kit because he said the kit + install he could do for 4500. Maybe even a little less if I sweet talk bill lol.
