turbo swap (noob)

The hahn level 2 kit for the cobalt ss doesn't come with an intercooler. Can I run the lvl 2 kit like that? Or am i just going to have to buy the lvl 3 kit?

I would most definately go intercooled unless your planning on very low boost. If cash is not an object for this go for the stage 5 then a custom tune.

Could i run the lvl2 though? cause i was going to buy the tvs kit. And the lvl 2 and tvs kit is about the same price so i'm leaning towards turbo instead.

Just save up a little longer. The turbo kit is the better way to go. I would suggest piecing together your own kit tho. Get the parts you want. s20g sucks.

^^^^Agreed but the hahn kit is decent either that or go with the ZZP Twincharged.

The ZZP twincharge kit will give you an insane powerband/torque curve. But i just cant see all that air trying to squeeze through a small m62 not causing a huge restriction on whatever turbo your running.

I'm going to need help with that. Can you give me a list of what I would need to buy etc. I will get it. I really want to go turbo. TVS kit is about 2500. So I rather save a little more and go turbo.

Turbo... whatever turbo you want I would suggest a 2871r, 2876, or 3076, bullseye S252 or S256
Turbo manifold from either vulcan, RD Fabs, whomever (hit up OTTP)
Intake manifold from HAHN, vulcan, or RD fabs (hit up OTTP)
Turbo downpipe
Charge pipes you can make from parts from EBAY
Couplers, Tbolts
Intake either from tubing from EBAY and a filter!

Then oil lines, and misc. stuff... and custom tune.

Don't forget colder plugs, and most likely a clutch!

it is very complicated. doing a turbo swap requires ALOT of commitment. unless you just buy a kit, then it'll come with everything you need, you just need to install/tune it. BUT you'll most likely recieve better results piecing a kit together.

if your going to go strictly turbo then you will need to sort out the belt situation when you take off the m62. I have choosen on my project to weld the lsj alternator clutch and reuse it. You will need atleast the 2.2 belt tensioner and alternator bolts and then you have the option to go with the 2.2 alternator and you will have to rewire the connector or just have the clutch welded on the lsj alternator and of course pick up a 2.2 belt.

Everything worth doing is complicated. TVS imo is overpriced and a waste of money. Turbo has unlimited possibilities. its mostly about how deep your pockets are...

^agreed about the overpriced part. But it certainly has more potential than an m62. look at what area has been able to do with it. Not work it for me though. Going turbo as soon as I can get my intercooler, pipes, and i/m. We'll see what my crappy s20g can do for me.

your better off doing lvl 5 unless you have time on your hands to guess ebay piping and custom fabricating some things. mine was a dd so i had to work fast on it.
i got lvl 4 because i ran with drifferent injectors and had the car custom tuned. for the pwr gains i dont regret it one bit.

tvs is great but for the pwr its random but its too damn loud for me. ppl with headers,catless,3"zost,and e85....not a good dd imo.
the 20g is good for a nice street car, i still have a 2.5" catback dipping on some vettes and alot more. if you want a highway monster then a bigger turbo you need. the 20g is a good starter turbo for our cars.

Same i've heard it doesn't wine unless you have like a 2.6 pulley. But yeah I don't want a monster just something faster. I have a stage 2 kit. Was thinking about tvs but for that money i rather go turbo.
