Upper motor mount & trans mounts upgrades

My Ingalls TD just took a dump & has totally lost it's dampening effect
& now clangs everytime I give it gas & when I let off the gas & man it's loud!

I'm looking at just replacing the upper motor mount with the ones on Turbo techs site (Turbo Tech Racing Solid Upper Engine Mount Chevrolet) and both trans mounts bushings.

I'm just wanting input for those who have done it as to do they last & I know the vibrations will increase as I don't care I just want to keep the wheel hop to a minimum as I want my tranny to last.

So to those who have all the updated mounts I wondered if it stopped the wheel hop or does it just reduce it ??

And do you feel it was a good upgrade?

I will let others speak, however most will say:

By doing both the upper TTR mount and the tranny bushings you will eliminate over 90% of the wheel hop. Also vibrations are equal to the vibs given off by an ingalls.

I dumped my ingalls for the TTR Upper Mount and it took care of just about all my wheel hop.

Just buy the TTR engine mount and bushings and u will not have to worry about wheel hop. When its first installed u will get a little vibes. but it will go away within 1000 miles or so.

I did the TTR upgrade motor mount and tranny mounts. It eliminated wheel hop but also made it a horrible daily driver. It vibrates very bad. I wasn't expecting it to be that bad, but its horrible. I now have to search down all the rattles and eliminate them

Just did the TTR transmission mounts and the vibrations are not bad at all, in fact really not noticeable at all cept when taking off from a light after moving a little bit, but nothing really more at idle or at higher cruising rpms. When car first started though the whole car and dash shook like crazy and quit after about 30 seconds. The wheel hop definatly gone with just the tranny mounts.

2 mins to remove front mount/5 mins for rear and the whole rear large 3 bolt bracket does not need to come out (using air tools is the only way to work on a car otherwise your gonna be under there for a while wrenching especially the rear bushing bolt which only has about 1" of wrench movement available on it).
10 seconds to rip each bushing out with a very large screwdriver and 30 seconds to press new ones in with vise.
easiest/quickest/cheapest mod there is.

posted many times, but here's my exp. with the bushings i got from ttr:

1) will still hop if too much gas in first, but it's MUCH more uesable now, can give it much more throttle. and it spins more than hops now
2) vibes are not that bad. it's a good tradeoff once ou start driving
3) shifts are MUCH smoother

well, well worth the price.

OK..... so if someone where to invest in mods to help prevent wheel hop or reduce it, what would be the best route? I have ordered Ingalls TD but if the mounts are better I will proceed that way.

ingalls by itself helps a LITTLE bit. not anywhere near as good as the mounts though.

Oh really..... so I should take that approach then. Say to hell with the Ingalls....??? I have to admit I am concerned about the vibrations, but if it saves on the tranny then I guess I would have to live with it.

As most have stated, and I first hand have found out, the mounts in the long run are the best way.

Vibrations on the ingalls compared to the TTR mount are almost the exact same. Except the mount replaces everything, some have had issues with the ingalls bending, or the actual stock factory mount breaking. By going with the TTR mount, that solves both.

Thanks for the good words.

vibes are really only noticeable at a few times, and they're rare. normal driving is totally fine. the times when you will most feel vibes are:

1) start up when it's really cold. should go away once the car warms up
2) in too low of a gear. example, you are driving in 2nd, slow down to go over a speedbump, and keep it in 2nd gear. after the speedbump, hit the gas, you will feel some vibes till you get back in the engines efficiency range.

they're really not that bad, and you get used to them. but the good outweighs the bad, so they're totally worth it.

Thanks for the help people.... I think I know what way I'm gonna go. When the funds come available (Christmas is killer) I'll be looking into getting the mounts.

Look forward to doing business with you TTR!!

Cool guys & thanks for the input.

I realize the vibes will be increased but I really don't care as what good is my car with a broken tranny?
I really don't roast the tires often but there is times I tend to give her just a tad to much gas & they spin & with out the ingals TD I'm getting wheel hop with verry little spin on wet pavement.

I will just upgrade the exhaust to cover the vibes Plus I know how to crank up the tunes

I was really baffeled on how well the TD did but I was also shocked on how it just came apart internaly as the shaft will move 1/2" by hand in & out & man it made a real clunk while shifting under power.

My dealer just replaced both tranny mounts under warranty with 29000 on the car so I'll buy the upper & the bushings for the tranny mounts & just put the upper on now & later this summer I'll put the tranny mounts in.

Thanks again for the info!

that have been my experience
they are great, but when you have a headache you WILL really feel the vibes
one of the best mod in my opinion

very happy with my full mount setup.

motor + trans.

the vibs during normal driving are same as ingalls.

during idle, and low rpm driving, theres definately more vibs than the ingalls, but nothing completely unbareable.

and its not an interior rattling sound, its just that you can feel the rumble of the engine through your pedals/hands and ass.

I always thought the motor was way to quiet & it was hard at first to tell where I was in the power range as far as lanching the car. At times I found my self turning off the radio to lanch in the right rpm range. Thats another reson I want to upgrade the exhaust also

I have a TTR solid engine mount but no trans mounts. I've been really happy with the engine mount although the finish has came off considerably. Especially the painted red part. The only time my car hops is if I'm rolling under 20mph and punch it. The install is like 15 minutes tops. I'm getting trans mounts after the new year so I'm anticipating zero wheel hop. TTR rules.

So the red powder coated finish is flaking off on TTR's engine mount? That sucks and a lousy powder coat job.

i don't mind them at all. i put the mounts on expecting the vibes, so all was good. and it makes the car feel totally different, but in a good way. how about those tighter shifts.
