Exclamation Want a Header??????

First I am not hawking someones product so please don't lock this thread. No he is not a supporting vendor because he does not even make something for our cars "YET". But he is willing to.
After all the problems we have had to get a "Quality" header we could use someone to produce what most of us want. I was at a local custom exhaust place today and the owner was showing me some of his work. One project was a set of headers he made for a 10 sec chevy minivan(seriously). When I saw the quality of his welds and how beautiful these headers were I told him he should consider making a header for our cars.
He said that would be easy and all he needs is 10 committed buyers to make them. I showed him the header I am going to install this weekend and he said he couldn't make anything that looked that bad and that the finish would be 5x's better. He said once 10 people were committed shipment would be within 30 days. And he is a 20 minute drive from me and I would bug the hell out of him to make sure he kept that commitment.
So what is everyones opinion?
Also for all of us Canadians that means no customs and I am sure there are at least 10 of that like that idea.

With a car group so plagued with header problems, I don't think we are going to put trust in just 'anyone'.....

It's hard to commit to buying something that we havn't seen or know anything about. Personally, I am going to wait until a major company makes them. I refuse to buy parts from small shops like this, they always result in horror stories.

The price would equal *** and I am sure he ships to the US. If enough people want them my suggestion to him would be only a deposit not full payment like *** made us pay. That way everyone is covered. Also they do complete exhaust\custom\underbody service work. He doesn't just do headers like ***. He sees an opportunity to service a community's need and yes make some money doing it. I floated the idea to him only after seeing his work and the custom headers he had already built. I can even get pics of his shop with an address that exists

kind of hard to get pics of something that doesn't exist. He is willing to make one if people want the header and it is pretty easy to guess what it will look like, as I have seen only 3 different headers for our cars and they all look the same
Bottom line some of us have TOG others have SCDyne and others have Ebay versions. I don't thinkI need 1 but I haven't installed my TOG yet. This thread is only to gauge interest in an item that no one else seems to be making. If people want it cool I will try to facilitate it and if not no big deal because I think I have one(I just hope it works)

what might help is posting a pic of one of the headers he has already fabricated (for other cars) and that might give us an idea of his work skill

i took my stock manifold to get the collector ported out at a friend's shop

a new stock manifold is $80 + shipping.(from gmpartsdirect) if he does a good job i might be able to get the work done very cheap for you guys, that way you could have a sub $200 ported manifold.

once he get's mine back to me i will post some pictures of how much material he was able to take out and this will solve the issue of using the stock gasket and the flanges being straight

I am sure most people feel that way and considering all the header screw ups (I know personally) that is totally understandable. Of course some of us are also really impatient

my best friend had a custom header made for his RL and it was sick...amazing welds that look like they were done by machine.

these look sick too, wish I had the money for it, does the guy have any idea on price? maybe a rough estimate?

I'm probably not alone on this. I will not give money up on a group buy for a product not yet made. That's the reason everyone got burned and is now a bit gun shy. I would buy the product if it's quality but I'm not paying to help R&D/produce it.

BC is west side just above Washington state.
The price will be equal abo ut $400.US. If there is interest enough I will nail down the price quoting previous prices and confirm shipping. This is the same shop that is doing my custom exhaust next week. As far as paying for R&D that is not the case as he will make the flanges by coping the stock manifold, allowing original gaskets to be reused, and as previously mentioned there are very few ways to make a header for our car and fit it in place so it's easy to asume how that will be accompished

it would be a shorty as well. I got a good look when the car was on the hoist and unless you throw away the cat there is no way to put a long tube in our cars.
