A Warranty Question

Ok This is the situation that I am in. I just recently bought a 2006 cobalt SS Supercharged and i want to upgrade it to stage 2 thats all fine and dandy. So i call the dealer to see how much it would cost and the labor to have it installed. Then i ask them ok this wont void my warranty right he told me that it would so i say ok then i called 5 other dealers in bigger citys all the same answer so i hang and get the GMC warranty phone number and call them and waited 20 mins for a answer and guess what she said no to. so what do i do? Before you say use the search button i already have and spent many hours reading the info and im not a noob so maybe someone can point me in a good direction....

For Stage 1 & 2 you keep your warranty.Dont let anyone try to tell you otherwise. For stage 3 you DO lose your engine and maybe the drivetrain warranty.

I totally agree...some car salesmen are completely uninformed and don't really care about it. I remember late summer in 05 when i test drove an LS I asked the salesmen about the 172hp model...he had no idea about it. ahh dahh. I mean seriously if it is your job, do some research, you might sell more cars.

Stages 1 & 2 WILL NOT VOID your warrenty! I used to work for a GMPP dealership and thats what they said. Contact a GMPP dealer as some dealers just don't know.

from what i have heard as a gm tech, is that they do now void the warranty. but being that warranty is not my end of the business im 100% sure this is just what i haver heard recently. if you called gm and they told you its not warrantied. how much more proof do you need?

That sucks if they void the warranty. If that is the case I will not be wasting my money on GM Stage 2. I will be getting a set of 42's, pulley, and tune for significantly less.

I heard it voids your factory warranty, but you get a 12 month warranty if a chevy dealer does the install. I have seen this topic all the time on this forrum, but there is never really a definative answer. IDK I could be wrong. Mine has full factory warranty with stage 2, but I picked it out off the lot with it and the GMPP exhaust.

Same thing happened at my stealership. I called GM's warrenty number and everything. I just ended up going elseware. I hope you find somewhere else easily. It took my almost 2 weeks to find a place that said they knoew how to install it, and it still took them 5 hours.

Truthfully, I just went in to have a crankshaft position relearn with Tag's Stage 3 at a different local dealership. THey asked if I had the "Upgraded injectors" and I told them I had GM stage 2. They couldn't tell the difference if it was labeled..

I think the trick is to find a dealership and get to know the service area. That way they will take care of you.

I spoke with my dealer today and they said the powertrain warranty is intact, but if I were to come in with broken axles or cracked trans casing they would automatically categorize it as abuse.

Does not void any warranty, that is why I bought it. My brother was the salesman and he checked into everything that I could get from GMPP at time of purchase and nothing voids the warranty. Now the service manager was being a dick about installing everything until the owner stepped in said this my dealership and you will do it or leave. And I have taken the car back in for warranty work on the GMPP exhaust and had no problems. The only thing you have to remember is keep the paperwork for Stage II in your glovebox and show this to the service writer every time you bring you car in so they know you have the reflash.
