Wet air filter? Engine Pwr Reduced
Ok guys I did the air box mod on my 06 SS/SC about 3 years ago. Of course whenever we get a lot of rain my air filter ( which now is 3 years old) gets wet and the car will run like ****. Bog and sputter when giving it gas until it dries out. Well we had a lot of rain here in Columbus, OH the last few days. Yesterday noticed it was hesistating in between shifts. Parked it at my parents for thanksgiving for about 4 hours while it rained the whole time. Came out to warm up the car and it wouldn't even hold a idle and died a few times. Finally evened out. When we went to leave it kept sputtering and bogging down. About 5 minutes down the road I got the good old "Engine Pwr Reduced". Shut the car off for a few minutes started it up and it cleared up after about a mile. Drove home fine. This morning all the rain had frozen and it did the samething when started. I'm assuming all the moisture left in the filter froze? After a few miles it cleared up again. Does this sound like a wet filter, then a frozen filter this morning? Keep in mind I have kept my foot completly out of this car since replacing the head last winter. Hope I didn't ruin the MAF.
Let me guess AEM Dryflow?
I went down this road with my old SC, and fixed several others.
The short of the long is just buy an aquashield. The vent in your wheelwell is just hole, there is no louver there to deflect water. I ended up making one. As it stands you are currently spraying water right down onto the maf. I had to replace a buddies, it was 275$ (CDN Funds).
Also, water comes in the hole above the fog light. Dont touch that. You may want to make sure you tighten down the 7mm screws in your wheel well to button everything down. I know mine was actually missing a screw and was not installed correctly. Look at the fitment etc.
I would check your plugs too. If you have just been "Ridin' it out" for 3 years, that's pretty bad for the ignition system, among other things.
Without a doubt clean your maf.

Exactly the same... Also had 2 other sc buddy's with the same issue. When the car is in this mode, and it's idling, does it kina "auto rev" itself and blip the throttle?
I had a corsa sport on mine and when it would bog n sputter and pop it would sound like small arms fire....
They key to get around it is to shift below 3000K
