That was my first thought as well. That and unplugging the throttle position sensor.

Whats the codes that the car threw? If you post the codes someone should be able to help you figure it out. Obviously you need to stop driving the car before you hurt someone or yourself. No brakes and sporadic idle don't mix well especially since the car is pretty much about to die and if it stalls that means no more brake booster to help you stop.

From everything that you just listed, it appears that you have a bad throttle body sensor. Trying cleaning it first and then replacing it. Definitely remove the whole throttle body from the vehicle before throwing some throttle body cleaner at it.

Throttle POSITION sensor is different. You can clean the throttle body till the cows come home, but it won't fix a problem with the throttle position sensor - it's what detects how far the pedal is pushed in.

I know the sensor is located externally of inlet throttle area but my thought process (which I didn't end up writing out properly) was that the throttle itself could be junked up and the TPS sensor is trying to keep the vehicle alive because of this.
