anything under a 3.0 and i highly recommend supporting cooling mods. new heat exchanger, meth, dual pass, etc. 2.7" is the lowest i'd go.

since u have a zzp heat exchanger and you dont even run it that much id say u should have no problem with a 2.7

A 2.8 is rate at the edge of overspinning the blower. That is a large part of it

go with the 2.8, 2.7 will make more heat for minimal power gain... plus if you have no cooling mods you will lose more power after a pull or two.

Truth here.
I have similar mods as you, NO meth, and my tuner says 2.8.
You would be Ok until around 6600 rpm...overspinning the eaton and creating more heat.
I have both a 2.7 and 2.8....I feel VERY LITTLE difference, if any....2.8 ftw.

back in the old days, people used to go 2.5 with a lot of cooling mods... i don't recommend it...but if you want to push your motor..that's how to do it. personally, a 2.7 is as small as i would go. With the mods you suggest, i would say a 2.8 is good, and you can run a 2.7 if you get a dual pass end plate to go with the larger HE

I ran a 2.5" for two years, no problems and ran like a champ.

Dual pass, 2 h/e's, meth, a few other tricks for cooling.

Not saying its the smartest thing to do but as long as you tune the car and treat it right it returns the favor.

get a 2.7, or you can have a 160* thermostat swapped in to replace the 180* factory one. retune. and run what ever the hell you want.

i know alot of the 3800 series engines swap to 160* tstats. would this be good for our engines, and what would it do for us besides running 20degrees cooler?

i've personally never tired this. but i've heard of a lot of people doing this. it doesn't do anything other than lower your cars "optimum operating temp" to 160, instead of 180

Why do we even have a search tool on this site?

this topic is as old as time itself.

I had a 160 tstat in my 02 grand prix gtp and it made a big difference all around and its a $10 dollar 10 min job so why not! Do they even make lower temp thermostats for our cars?
