Front mount what? um no

I'll say this for the 1 millionth time. Do the airbox mod and save money on the cai because it does the same thing. The cai just looks blingy. The stock intake flows really well on the Cobalt after you mod the airbox.

Secondly you're going to get the best results from doing traction mods. Get traction bars, motor mounts, tranny mounts all that good stuff and that way you can hook up all the extra power you will add later. These are also great mods to prevent damage to the axle or tranny housing.

Then after you are getting that power to the ground you need to decide how far to go. Are you looking for a little extra power or a lot? Stage kits are great, GMs will keep your warranty, others will give you better gains but you may have warranty troubles. If you want lots of power swap that blower out for a twin screw.

That's a real basic over view but those are the pretty common paths to consider. Obviously it's a lot more complicated then that but search around and educate yourself before you start slapping on parts. That way you can get the best results for the money.

You asked,so I'll offer my opinion.I've had my car a couple of weeks and mostly I've driven it and bonded with it,and looked for the things that I personally have issues with.
The factory shifter is not as precise as I would like, the Hurst shifter will be here from Summitt on Tues. I think the car can benefit from a little more rubber so a trip to the tire store will be next. For me it is not only about power,it's about the car as a whole.
Congratulations on your purchase,I think you will love it.

I think step one is going to be to notice how crazy it is reading sentences that all have the first letters capitalized, and 2nd should be go with a stage kit, as I think this will net you the most gains for the money.

that front mount intake is really a joke. i blocks airflow to the intercooler and air has to travel through that stupid pipe. you will not see anyyyyy gains from it, but ppl will laugh if they see it.

as for modding the car, the first response was a good one. get the power to the ground and stop the wheel hop. then, look at stage kits. you have GM, Cobalt Addiction, Tag Racecraft, and Intense. do some research around the site .

As for intakes, it's usually one of the first things ppl do to their car.
A lot of ppl go with Injen, however there have been a lot of problems overall with the setup and i just fell victim to them. I just recently got a K&N CAI, and it seems like a lot more time was put into the design. Good luck

If you're interested in intakes, I can vouch for AEM. Easy install, can't see it from the engine bay so it doesnt look aftermarket, sounds great, no CEL. Also, I don't know about everyone else, but as far as stock goes, I have gotten no wheel hop what so ever and I drive it spirited whenever I feel like it. I was going to wait to say anything until after I got stage 2 to see how it is with more power under the wheels, but so many people say things about wheel hop. I think as long as you drive it how the car needs to be driven, you shouldnt have any problems with wheel hop as I have had NO problems at all. I wouldn't even know it's a problem unless I didn't read it on these forums 3x a day.

Do you ever go to the track or launch your car? I'm guessing not because if you did you would know all about wheel hop. Even if you aren't getting it the traction mods will really help you reduce that all important 60' time which ultimately will result in better times at the track.

I'm not sure if you are implying we are all bad drivers or what? I assure you we aren't and wheel hop is a real and big issue with this car. If you aren't getting wheel hop I doubt you are driving this car as hard as a lot of us are.

First off no, I don't go to the track with my car because I realize the Cobalt isn't the ideal car for track racing, or even drag racing for that matter and also because I hope to keep this car for a while and intend to do so healthily and warrantied. If people had chosen a car for track use, then the cobalt was a poor choice and for most cars (I know some better/worse than others) FWD is not the way to go at all for drag racing. These cars were not meant to handle drag racing as well as other cars, and therefore shouldn't be drag raced without proper modification. If you plan on taking your car to the track like you obviously do, then its fine and I see where you're coming from, but Im sure that many people on this forum are not doing it for track use and Im sure you will agree.

That being said, unless you are building your car FOR drag racing, these cars are meant to be roll racing cars (if racing cars at all) as the drivetrain stress involved with what it takes to launch these cars is oftentimes more than it can handle. For most FWD cars you will experience wheel hop when you drop the clutch at a higher rpm, so that is to be expected with ANY manual transmission therefore making wheelhop an obvious result of doing so. My thing is that so many people seemed surprised that wheelhop is so dangerous for the cars and act like they are surprised that they even experience wheelhop which to me is just stupid when you look at the stress that you put on the car.

As for me not driving my car as hard as others, I don't drive it beyond its means and i don't push the car to the extreme limits because as I stated earlier, I value the life of my car, my investment, and my warranty. Im sure after driving a car for a while, you get to know its feel just like anyone else, and those are the boundaries I stay in PRIMARILY involved with "launches". I have no problems getting on it from a roll as the car can do that fine and should be able to do so.

As for your direct post, I understand that wheel hop is a real and direct issue if you drop your clutch at the track and try to get a better 60' for an overall better 1/4 mile time, but for day to day driving and even spirited driving, wheelhop should not be a concern. Personally I wouldn't WANT to race my car from a stop seeing as axles can go so easily and if I did, I would have kept my 3000GT.
