Wheel hop damage?

I was out today, and its rainy and cold. There wasn't any ice or anything, but i started driving from a stop and the clutch slipped from under my foot and got a little dumpage.

Soooo... I got wheel hop for about .5-1 seconds. Scared the crap out of me (ive never had it) so I drove like a saint until I got to where I was going. I looked under the car, and there wasnt anything leaking, so I dont think I did anything really bad like cracking the tranny housing. I listened while I was driving too and didnt hear any strange sounds. I dont think I did anything to my car, but I was wondering how much of this would damage the car? Did I do anything to damage the car as it is?

At any rate, I think the engine torque damper has moved up on my list of mods, to right after the stage two (like, same day the stg2 is installed.)

BTW: apologies if I posted in he wrong forum for this, i thought this was a good place for this type of thred. smack me if I did post in the wrong place

dude the only thing that wheel hop will do to your car other than damage in the long run is the Axles, and if you axles bust, your rpms will go up and your car will not move since the tires are not moving.

thats not fully true. I took my car in to have the clutch looked at once. The guys are really nice because before he didanything he went to gm to find out the history well he found out that the tranny cases are cracking caused by wheel hop.

Basically unless you do it constantly you wont have any problesms, i have wheel hopped my a ton of times and so far i have no damage.

Ok, I've had it for three months now and this is the first time its happened. I guess its ok, just as long as its not a habit.

Anyone else want to chime in on this?

Tranny Cases cracking are the major damage caused by wheel hop and it happens quite often. Unfortunatly this will not be fixed by GM or even considered. Just be careful when your drivin it.

Axles can break too, but in the 2008 model year GM will have stronger axles. So thats about June or July of 07' you'll see them.

yeah you're fine if it was just for a few seconds and you dont do it constantly. when the cases and axles break its usually from dumping the clutch and just letting the wheels bounce for a couple minutes, and repeating this over and over. you probably didnt do any damage though

If you were in the rain, I doubt the tires were gripping to their full potential. I wouldn't worry about it.

This happens to me alot, and you cant launch the car full throttle or even 3/4 down because the same thing will happen. I have never owned a car that the wheel hop has been that violent. It sucks, cant wait till I get the torque damper to get rid of the problem or at least clear up most of it.

ya this is exactly why i have also moved the stiffy up on my list of mods. feels like the whole damn car is going to fall apart whenever it happens. rather a scary feeling, knowing that the tranny could be cracking

Wow am I glad you posted this....the same thing happened to me the other day. I really got on it at first and the wheel hop lasted 2-3 seconds. Scared the crap out of me too but it sounds like its nothing serious as long as its not frequent.
