Why not just use the K&N ( E-0777 ) filter?

With all the dyno pulls showing very minimal gains from going from the stock CAI to an aftermarket CAI (INJEN, K&N...) why just not replace the filter element with the K&N (E-0777) http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...px?Prod=E-0777 Its around 38$ U.S and I think it would probably lead to the same gains. After looking at the stock CAI its pretty well made from factory...I wanted a Aftermarket CAI but now am considering using the extra 200$ U.S and using it for something else...

The stock airbox is too good at quieting the supercharger. I would like to hear that whine.

So you bought your CAI just for sound. Don't get me wrong I love the sound of the car, but damn if it's gonna save me $200, I'll just get the filter

I'm with ya brotha. I will pay for the look and sound of the a/m intakes. I have seen the factory routing and the a/m routing. The a/m routing WILL provide that extra HP.

the reason no one is seeing big gains from intakes is because of the 1.5" hole on the minfold it has to go out through lol.. the manifold needs to be swapped to see good gains from the intake, cause the air going out is more of a problem for us, than air coming in

Are you talking about the intake manifold(intercooler) or the exaust manifold?
I think that the biggest problem with the SS/SC is the exaust manifold being too restrictive...
The original CAI we have is not restrictive at all.... except for the filter.

yeah.. the exhaust one... with an intake, there's alot more air trying to come in, but it's still leaving as slow as it was before

Forgot to say (again) that the intake restriction can be measured with the Aerroforce Interceptor gauge, and at WOT with only a K&N filter in the stock airbox, there is 0,0 PSI loss !

i put the e-0777 k&n filter on mine back in november. surprisingly enough, i get much more supercharger whine than i did with the stock filter, with no other mods. its not as loud as it probably would be with a whole new intake with completely exposed filter, but i'm happy with the increased volume, and the fact that noone will know its in there if i have a simple problem that requires dealer intervention (ie, no reason for them to try to weasel out of warranty by saying i've modded and caused damage, or trying to indicate car was abused based solely on mods made to it). add in the fact that i've driven 9000 miles with the filter installed and have yet to get one cel, when the stock filter was throwing them every 4 days for the last 2 months i had it on, and i'm a happy k+n customer.

Very good point made here about the warranty issues.
Anybody else not getting a cell with the E-0777 filter?
Am gonna order mine soon too...

Why not just mod your current air system to be a CAI ? All you need to do is remove the bottom of the airbox. Place some gutter strap under the filter for support. Gutter strap is a pliable metal with holes in it. Think like a belt you wear on pants there are holes to adjust. Anywho take that gutter strap put it under your filter for support and screw in with factory screws and into the factory holes of where the bottom of the air box used to be. This way you have the SC whine, mine whines like crazy and you have the same HP gain as the complete CAI. Total cost of my setup $5

thats an interesting mod ... might consider that but instead of getting the k&n I think I will get the aem dry flow filter
