Why Not Stage 2 Stock?

If the stage 2 is realiable enough for gm to warranty. Why not make stage 2 stock?

As in, not making it stage 2 but just making the car come with a small puller and bigger injectors and so forth so that a stock 07 SS/sc or 08 would be rated at 240 hp 210 tq.

And the stage 2 for that could put it at like 270-280hp.

There is alot more stuff that would have to go along with it with the extreme gains in hp there is a need for forged internals, so its probably just an aspect of saving money, thats my thought

agreed this is their "tuner car" and if they pushed it then they couldn't give all these kits to get more out of them. also there is a whole web of other reasons but the answer is long and yeah...

Yeah, but then the old stage 2 would be stock and the new stage 2 would actually be stage 4, but you couldn't call it stage 4 cause stage 2 would be stock and the world would explode.

He's right. GM spent $350 million in R&D to figure that out.

Reliability and part life diminish somewhat with the stage 2 etc. It puts more strain on everything. To keep "factory" longevity, so many parts would have to be upgraded, the car would essentialy become a different one...hence more expensive. JMO.

the reliability of intense's kit is still out for verdict. i havent heard of anyone putting on stage 5 dyno it and running it for a long period of time.

Im sure its quality, but its judgement is still out in my mind.

The Stage 2 didnt meet the engine longevity test. It came close, but couldnt meet it, hence Stage 2 will never be stock unless they upgrade a part of the engine. (but they did want it to be, just couldnt happen)

Lightbulb Why Not Stage 2 Stock?

Ive had alot of thoughts on this.Ive been wondering why some dealers havent pulled in a SSSC and did the stage 1 or 2 as a dealer installed option myself.Then put the car back on the lot for sale.Yenko and a few other dealers use to do that type stuff years ago on vegas and others motion was another dealer that use to toss on the goodies back in the early 70s before epa put a stop to the fun.I kinda figured insurance would be the #1 reason for the buyer.Buying a modfied factory flyer straight from the dealer.I really dont think anyone with a stage 2 has much to worry about other than drivetrain issues.Clutches and what not.Take this as a rumor or what every but a friend told me the folks that test these blocks and engine parts have put them through some crazy ass stress test for hours on end.That makes me feel good the weekend rodder.But really the bottom line would be the insurance. And most of all the bottom line as in sales they make more off of the buyer haveing you comeback in to buy the new goodies for your car to be installed or taken home and installed. More ways for the dealer to make money and for GM.

Like stated earlier, it's for the money. They are trying to lower the prices of cars and increase the MPG for sales. For those that want the power and don's care about the MPG, they offer the Stage Kits. Plus with them being factory backed people are more likely to purchase them and not think they are getting screwed by Chevy.

The SRT's have Stage Kits from Mopar, but they void the warranty and you can get more bang for the buck by going 3rd party aftermarket then with the factory stuff. Mopar screwed up on that one. Why would someone pay the same amount for less power if the warranty was void either way.

If hevy were to spin the S/C much faster it would be exceeding the limits of it. (14,000 continuous and 16,000 peak) Not to mention that Roots blowers start to really lose their efficiency after 12-15 PSI and create a lot of heat.

the stage kits were developed after the car was built..... GM had plans, but had not executed the stage kits when the car was released.

.... the car is what it is..... the stage kits are an afterthought improvement.

how do i word this so it makes sense....? well, i'll explain it with a question. anytime a manufacturer offers warranty backed kits, are they to be criticized for not providing this on the stock car? the stage kits are a mod, and if they where part of a stock SS/SC, what would be the next step? .... nitrous? plus, only the true enthusiasts are purchasing these stage kits, and the average consumer may not be pleased with driveability of a stage 2 ss/sc.

i agree, the stage 2 would be a stage 4..... then the world would explode.... noo..... it would implode, just cuz that sounds cooler :P
