is a wideband neccessary?

i'm tired of the rich stage 2 tune so i'm fixing to buy a 2.9 pulley, bigger heat exchanger, and get a dyno tune from a local shop. i am going to buy an interceptor gauge to keep an eye on my iat's and everything. do i need to buy a wideband as well or should i be alright without knowing my afr?

Well, the tuner actually needs a wideband or somewhere to insert one to tune the car. YOU don't actually have to have one. If people come to me for tunes and dont have one I have one available for quick connecting and renting for the tune session.

Depends if you have the money to buy a new engine from running too rich or to lean then no you don't need one. I would get one if I was you so you don't blow somthing up.

a great alternative if you dont want to spend the 190 bucks, but I would still highly recommend one for daily monitoring of afrs

If you are getting a dyno tune like your post states, then no. The dyno should have an exhaust sniffer to use. If not, do NOT get work by that shop.

If you are street tuning with a tuner, then yes there needs to be one installed

wicked he has a high flow cat, I dont believe the sniffer will be accurate enough for a decnt tune, correct?

Honestly, who's to say a wideband is 100% accurate either? Both sensors just display a reading based on the output signal. Just sayin

this is true, and im sure wideband placement plays a big part in what reading its taking, thats why on my ottp longtube I put the wideband in the #4 cylinder runner and the front O2 in the #1

yea i'm going to get a dyno tune from a very reputable shop. he tuned a redline before. they also have tuned many high hp supras and other cars so i'm sure they have a way to tell what my afr would be. i really don't feel like spending the extra dough on a wideband or having the extra clutter of another gauge if i don't have to, but i want to have a safe dd.
