wtf?

Changed my oil today and got literally, no exaggeration, almost 8 qts of oil out of the car. 100% sure that no coolant came out when I pulled the plug and the oil is not milky or discolored, just black like it always is.

Think maybe its something with the fuel? An injector stuck open and seeping down past the rings? Just throwing ideas out there.

Can't be fuel or you would smell it with that much in the oil. Did you change the oil last? Maybe it got over filled last time.

i'll put in like 6ish, start the car on a level surface for a minute, stop it, check the dipstick and add until its at the fill mark... then later ill check and its low? so i'll add moar and then all a sudden it reads like a quart high. idfk anymore lol

Do you guys not read your manuals? Idk about the LSJ, but the LNF is supposed to be only 5 quarts. The dipstick just shows that your not too low or too high, you should never fill trying to hit "the middle of the dipstick". When you check your dipstick your supposed to do it after the engine hasn't been run for a while so that all the oil drips out of the valve train, down the cylinder walls, etc.

Wow, that sucks. But why? Is your oil pan that much deeper? Our oil is actually fed into the turbo and back so I'd think we'd have to have more oil to fill the lines and the turbo. I just find that interesting.

Gonna have to ask somebody more knowledgeable.

As to why the manual says 6 vs. most of the forum saying 6.5, IDK either.

It's because of Oil Cooler, when you start the car and most of the Oil goes to Oil Cooler. It sit there when the car is running, it cool the Oil. When you shut your car off then Oil will go down to Oil Pan, that's why you put more Oil in it. I usually put 7 quart of Oil in my car.

usually about 7 here. I drive the car up on ramps so the engine is tilted backwards. I drain it when the engine is hot (as you should always), and let it drain for a good 45 minutes while I go have a beer or something.

I use to put 7 but then I heard somewhere or read from someone or a tech book that overfilling can lead to blown seals. I only use 6 now.

i've put 5 in since i've had the car and its always in the middle of the crosshatch so i figured it was good. i didnt get an owners manual with my car so i just went with what every other ecotec i ever changed oil on took.

i didnt know it was supposed to take over 6. so i guess its not much off but it shouldnt be off at all right? i honestly thought i ended up with 3 quarts of oil more than what i was supposed to have lol

I THOUGHT I had 3 quarts extra but according to everyone on here I only had like 1 or 1.5 extra. But it still shouldn't be 8 quarts, right?

am i missing something here? why do half the people on this site think that the factory recommended amount isn't enough. do you really think the GM engineers with their research adn developement didn't design the engine to have teh amount of oil needed? lol

serious question ^^^^
