08 2.2 stock downpipe with new header?

Im looking at getting a new catback exhaust as well as a new 4 to 1 header but Im not sure on one thing. Will I have to replace the stock downpipe or can I use it/ modify it?

Any help is much appreciated

its more beneficial to do your DP before you upgrade the header. SUPER restrictive. or just do both at the same time

You can get a downpipe for about $200. It would be well worth it.

otherwise you can pick up an LSJ dp if your a 5spd. the size difference is pretty drastic. I love mine just because its quiet. I didnt want anything much noisier than the stock 2.2 dp and i know zzp's dp with high flow cat is louder and raspier

Im running an auto :-( I know..but Fiance cant drive a manual.

I dont want anything louder than stock so pretty much you guys are saying get the downpipe and the catbak then worry about the header later.

Any preferences on a downpipe/cat combo for the 2.2?

Thanks for the help guys

Im planning on doing the installs myself so would doing the dp and header be pointless if I was to wait on the catback. I doubt I will have the cash to do it all out of income tax since Im paying for my wedding in April.

Im thinking on just getting the catback as I already have the Intake.
I just dont think it would be worth the money and trouble to go with a header and downpipe, I dont race very much and mostly want performance and mpg gains.

Yeah I know Its just that all the catted downpipes that I am finding are like $250 plus the header which wouldnt leave me much for the catback system. If I could get ahold of a used catted downpipe I could probably pull it off. Bad thing is that no one races tuners around here its all Hondas or old muscle cars.

But I dont think I would benefit much with an aftermarket muffler and a custom ram Intake even with a catback wouldnt it be a waste?

your exactly right

my advice just take it in steps. nobody can afford all their mods at once.. i got my catback first too and i dont regret it. then when the time came i upgraded dp's n the list goes on im fully bolted now...

yea u wanna tune after ur done with all ur mods, unless u wanna pay for a retune. If u dont wanna pay $200 for brand new downpipe, search the forums classifieds for a used one. theres a bunch that always come up from parts outs.

And getting a header and keeping stock downpipe will gain u nothing. u have to do both at once to see any sort of gains/mpgs. IMO if ur guna do ur exhaust only for mpgs, and nothing else, just get used parts and make sure u get a 2.25'' piping to 2.5''. nothing over 2.5'' or u wont have any backpressure. u will obviosly see a gain in mpgs with bigger piping. then if all ur doing is ur exhaust, then get a trifecta tune. ull c more gains in mpgs and a little more performance

just my .02

This is exactly why I tell everyone I dont want a kid right now because when it comes to my car, I am one. Grabbing the catback with income tax $$$ and then taking the rest in stages.

My number one GOAL is to beat my buddys 04 Mustang v6 in mid Feb, Im thinking Im good to go but Im not sure what he plans on doing but right now he is bone stock 3.9L

FYI i achieved a higher top speed with the stock cat back (had all other mods except the cat back and LSJ TB) and was tuned. 133 mph with the auto

cant break 130 mph now

I am getting a much better pull with just the intake so now Im hooked on getting more and how does that tiny restrictive stock piping benefit at all besides being street legal?
