I understand your desire to have the GM kit. It will be expensive, and it will not produce as much power as you could get for that same amount of money. But you do get to keep a warrenty and have it serviced by Goodwrench, so I understand.

However, the stage kits for are for the LSJ engine. They will not work on the L61 engine. Sure, you can try it, but then all that stuff I just said about keeping a warrenteed engine goes right out the window.

I was just at the Harrisburg Auto Show yesterday and the GM performance rep told me that they increased the output #'s for the 2L turbo motor another 5HP and 5Ft lb of torq 265 Hp and 265 torq, thats sweet. He also said to look for more turbocharged products to come from GM.

sneaky--you forgot one important item. The Solstice uses a RWD version of the ecotec. So even if there is a crate engine you couldn't drop it in. Many componenets would not work.
You could use some parts for sure but not the entire engine.

Also, whats up with that low 5300rpm hp peak of the GXP?? Thats werid. Should be over 6000rpm

i'm sure something could be done to make it work, otherwise it would make for a good rwd cobalt conversion

If it's turbocharged, an engine will usually fall off at redline where a SC will scream linear.

Careful. I think thats the kit for the Cavalier/Sunfire, which is not compatible with the Cobalt. The Cobalt kit is it's own separate thing, and has not been released yet.

really? because from my understanding, it will be exactly the same kit that will work, it was just long overdue. a call to gm technical support will confirm this one. its the same kit they used in the gm performance build, on a cobalt.
does anyone have pricing for the other kits mentioned?

I beleave that is the second belt-driven fuel pump that the article mentioned...

Taken from article: "A high-pressure, returnless fuel system is employed. It features a high-strength stainless steel fuel line that feeds a variable-pressure fuel rail. Direct injection requires higher fuel pressure than conventional fuel injected engines and an engine-driven high-pressure fuel pump is used to supply up to 1,276 psi (150 bar) of pressure. The system regulates lower fuel pressure at idle — approximately 752 psi (50 bar) and higher pressure at wide-open throttle. The cam-driven high-pressure pumps works in conjunction with a conventional fuel tank-mounted supply pump. "

Not 100% sure, just what i got from it...

Good thinking, but that isn't it. The part you highlighted says "Cam Driven", which means its on that mounting pad on the cylinder head where the Cavalier Ecotecs have their power steering pumps. So I still want to know what that thing is.

I was alwasy under the impression that superchagers make great power off idle while turbos take longer to build boost but have more power at high rpm. Where did I go wrong??

There is a reason GM offers the sc with a warranty, your engine can handle it without modifications. If you were to put a turbo on and try and get 260hp like the Solstice engine and not worry about damaging the engine, you would need to rebuild the engine. Look at all the changes they made to that engine.

At almost redline, a turbo engine will taper off unless steps have been taken to reduce this effect.

To whom it may concern, Vortech released a stg. 2 supercharger for the 2.2L ecotech. That is rated at 85hp. @ 10psi, which ain't bad numbers at all.

would the turbocharger kits made for the 2005 cavy work for my 2.2L cobalt since they both have a 2.2L Ecotech? I dont see any reason why they wouldnt.

um I don't know... maybe we should ask the expert...

want my honest opinon? same motor, different routing of plumbing and would need some custom work. Nothing is ever out of the question with a little bit of thought and money/time.
