you're gonna get alot of mixed answers between turbo vs. supercharged. imo, i'd go turbo. it's more money, but it's more bang for your buck. there are members with both s/c and turbo 2.2l build threads, if you'd like to search them. two of them are HunterKiller89 and Pykie.

It really depends what your goals are and how much money you want to spend on the car. Throw out some power numbers that you want to hit and give a price range. That will most likely determine which way to go.

I am more in for the turbo, alot easier to upgrade when you decide you are bored with the current performance.

Supercharger - Good/Reliable power, easy installation, less maintenance
Turbo - Great high end power, more high end potential, harder maintenance/more of a pain in the ass

on our cars a SC is about the only thing todo enless you start changing parts in the engine.
if you got the money to strengthen the engine then turbo would be a better way to go.

the wine in the supercharger is nice, but its always on. ill take the turbo leg to keep my city mpg

I get 30 mpg in mine. If you don't stomp on the gas and stay below boost level and take it easy it's OK.. But if you have a heavy foot then yes it's going to eat gas.

I'm going with a supercharged build because my cobalt is my daily driver. i dont need 300hp+ with a turbo cuz in MY personal opinion, thats what a turbo deserves. A decently built sc kit for our cars can be as cheap as $1200 with mostly used parts ive seen and i think hunterkiller is pushing out around 265whp which is perfect for me and my dd. Thats where i'm aiming for. If i get there and decide that i want more, then who knows what'll happen. I've got about 1/2 my parts only and i've been collecting for a few months. Either you can go the expensive route and by new parts off of gmpartsdirect.com, crateenginedepo.com, zzperformance.com, etc. or if youre patient enough, the cheap(er) gently used parts will come to you. Even with a turbo kit its the same way. A nice turbo build i havent seen below $2k but dont quote me on that. If i were to go turbo, i looked into the pricing and a made a list of the parts i would buy and it came out to be well over $4k cuz i added in parts to also build the motor up enough to handle the power. its all about what you can afford really.

^^Great explanation lol i was trying to think of another way to say it but thats exactly what i came up with. Only thing i have to add to that tho, if you dont mind and correct me if i'm wrong. I read it somewhere on another thread. Is that with a supercharged setup, once you wanna start pushing above 300hp+, it gets mad expensive. A turbo kit on the other hand, if built right to begin with, is cheaper once you wanna start pushing above 350hp+ish.

your gonna get more power out of a turbo, but the supercharger produces no lag and is somewhat easier to install....depending on how ***** out you go with your setup.

Maybe it is just me but I would stay away from piecing together your own kit. In the long run it may be cheaper but not by much. ZZP has the SC kit built so a moron could install it. Plus you know you are getting everything you need. Also when buying idividually you still have to pay shipping and on everything and it will add up quick.

As for power wise. You probably wont be over 300hp on a 2.2/2.4 m62 even with full bolt ons. For turbo and supercharger they are about the same price. Yes a fully bolted turbo 2.2/2.4 would probably have more power than a fully bolted 2.2/2.4 but it wont be by much. Your going to have to start working on internals either way because in a 2.2 I believe the rods/pistons are rated at 250 crank hp. Back on topic though if you want to do a huge build turbo vs. supercharger the supercharger might be a bit more but not much. You can just basically do a supercharger upgrade and TVS it if you have built internals and a **** ton of money invested but thats the same with a turbo. If you want to step up to a bigger turbo, it wont be cheap. Turbos are expensive as hell. If you buy a used one haha well me personally would never buy a used turbo, but it adds up. One other thing I noticed is that turbo builds usually require more money invested to get started compared to a supercharger kit. Either way it wont be cheap and if you are going to be aiming for 300+whp you better have some internal work done and some high quality cooling mods.
