Angry 2.2 transmission

so is there any one who has beefed up a 2.2 trans and how r u keeping it alive i just killed my second trans it rattels when i let off the gas and de-cell. any ideas here would be nice

What the **** are you guys doing!!! Powershifting without knowing how to? Or Redlining it every second???? That rattling you hear is from a chipped gear. Where you down shifting at a speed higher than the gear can go? I'm sorry guys, get some lessons in driving stick.

the tranny in these cars is actually very strong, it can hold about double the wheel horsepower before it starts to blow...

maybe it's your guys driving? i mean one, maybe you had a bad tranny... but to blow up 2 or 3, i would take a look at what you're doing to it...

stop dumpin the clutch at every greenlight. if you blow your tranny in an N/A unless it has a beastly amount of power like N/A drag cars.. get an auto

My tranny held up to over 224wtq. So did my stock clutch. If you know exactly where each gear ends, you will always know which gear to be in. And always revmatch. Its a lot easier on the tranny and clutch.

Actually these transmission are pieces of junk. Took mine into a tranny shop when my synchro first started to fail and he couldnt believe Chevy was still using them. Said something about it being a simple yet weak design and 20 years old or some crap about a Fiero... Ehh I dont know anyways he said if I ever decide to build the car I would be better off getting a custom tranny then trying to build up the transmission chevy uses.

yeah 3 gear synchro went then 5th then 4th then clutch its my 1st trans though but after i got my engine together i put down 260 hp and 263 tq at mroz's dyno local dyno in hobart indiana its na with a little shot of cheater juice i never replaced the clutch or went through my trans to beef it up my trans is getting rebuilt with racing synchros exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel so to sum it up it was not driver error ..... in fact ill challenge ne one who is talkin **** to a run to see who is the better driver.....but most of you who are talkin **** have little bolt on performance mods with the exception of Sw4y1313 who is turbo so in turn talk **** to a nubie who doesnt know any better not people who actually build their cars to run ......... flame all you want but keep putting bolt ons to your 2.2 then complain why ss/sc and 2.4s are walking all over you or why your 2.2 is not fast and either you want to go turbo or trade it in for a ss/sc or a 2.4

I think he's the guy that did the s/c conversion on the 2.2, if so, that could be why it keeps blowing up.

Hey now I can drive better then most anyone. Been racing minor open SCCA autocross sponsored events since I was 16 with my Nissan. These transmission are crap and all you have to do is a simple search on these forums to find the hundreds of posts people have on here about Synchronizers failing, Shift forks bending, and dogs chipping.

so let me get this straight, you buy a base model car that is primarily used as a rental car and for old people, then you do "serious power mods" and are surprised that the tranny can't handle it?? majority of cars out there, if you're more than doubleing the stock hp, yes, you're going to have to do some tranny work.

You guys are hilarious. Getting in a fight because someones tranny took a dump. It happens. I know people who have mustangs that took a dump after 20000 miles and people that have the same mustang running over 100000 miles. Just because its the same year and model doesn't mean it IS the same. **** happens, things break and it isnt always your fault (a nice lesson my camaro taught me). Stop yelling at each other and being gay. Youre not a bad driver just because your tranny took a dump and hes not a ricer for not wanting ugly wheels and rediculous wheel gap on his stock motored car. The end
