2.2l cobalt sedan
2.2l cobalt sedan
Im gonna trade in my 04 civic sedan for a cobalt sedan, now my question is there a lot of aftermarket support for this engine? like could i just buy an existing supercharger from GM and still have a decent performing sedan ? what do yall think ?
Hey, welcome to the site
The aftermarket for the Ecotec engine is growing rapidly. Theres no doubt that there will be various intakes as well as aftermarket exhaust packages for the Cobalt.
Many of the parts from the Ecotec Cavaliers should fit the Cobalt, since they use the same engine (The Cobalt just has +5 HP more). The Ecotecs also seem to respond very well to mods, so things like a bigger throttle body and aftermarket chip should yield some nice horsepower gains.
As for the Supercharger, GM is expected to come out with one specifically for the Ecotec any time now. It was supposed to be out months ago, but apparently they are holding off until the Cobalt gets going, so it doesn't take away from SS S/C orders
When it does finally come out it should be an awesome addition to the Ecotec. It should give it about a 40 HP bump, but thats just what GM says, apparently that is a conservative number, and it should be more around 50-60HP.
Hope that helps with your decision

the aftermarket so far for these delta cars is nothing special...no FI options as of yet due to no tuning ability.
but if you just want basic bolt ons the market is there (but small)...certainly has nothing on the Honda aftermarket.
if you're looking for something with more low end torque I'd suggest looking into the SS (non supercharged) sedan...the 2.4 should take care of you nicely and be a big jump from the civic sedan.

I love my Cobalt Sedan. My wife does most of the driving on it, but it is such a solid little car. Not a powerful car by any means, but it will get up and go. There is a little after-market support right now. No doubt though it will get better. Alot of people are buying Cobalts. (And HHR's... they are ECOTEC too)
