400WHP ( A Real Dream ??!?)
Hey Cobalt Owners!!!...
Before I ask this question I want to re-itterate that I am a noob as far as tuning my car but am looking for the knowledge and power to make my 2.2 a beast (in my eyes lol, not trying to run a 7.0) .... Anyways I want to get my car, 07 chev cobalt 2.2 lt... to 400whp ... I don't know whats neccesary or if that is even possible... Someone told me the ecotec on my car isn't even cappible of getting to 400whp because it will crack the engine mounts and stress bars...and than I thought to myself...what am I getting into lol...Possibly a whole engine rebuild or what? Anyways I know the simpelest mods and bolt ons...Intake, manifold, exhoust, super c'd, turbo c'd... fly wheel, etc...etc... but all that added together is still not going to get me pushing 400whp...So what I need to know guys is... HOW CAN I MAKE THIS POSSIBLE lol and will it even be a cobalt by the end of my endevour... Sorry for the spelling, at work and didnt have time to edit... |
No other way besides some sort of turbo setup and a full internal build. Not worth it AT ALL. You're better off buying a brand new car that makes 300+ whp and doing bolt-ons to that
|
FULLY built motor, trans and a big turbo =\
|
if money is an issue,.. don't try it. if money is no issue. im sure its possible. just not practical
|
Thing is I owe 10 grand on it still lmao.... and dont want to wait 3 years lol....You guys ruined my day !! lol
|
agree with other posts, the project will cost you at least 6k in parts and lots of your time
not worth it if you need power for the track, spray a 75shot if you need constant power, try a turbo build if you want to make 400whp, pay off your car and buy a new one |
THATS IT, 6K?...Lets do this!!!...I will take your guyses direction and it will be all of our project haha... Thats not that much to me, Id have a 400whp car in a year at tops...
|
ya 6k in parts, and your car wont be driveble for a long time, if you choose to do it yourself
turbo kit + internals, you might be in the 300 range. either bigger turbo or nitrous to get 400+ again, its a dream. dont bother :( |
:confused::wtf:
just 6k? you must be a rich mother, or a rich family. |

for real. why not just try to get some nice 200 something WHP with a cheap s/c build. 225 whp will be enough for someone used to driving a slobalt 2.2.
and to think. smacking a bunch of decent cars because they thought you were just a silly N/A 2.2 :) |
If your a noob, this is not the way to start. Maybe your goal should start out at 200 hp? Anyways 400 on a 2.2 will require more cash than you probably have. Why not throw on a 250 shot and see where that takes you?
|
trade your car in for a ss/tc... with an intake, exhaust injectors and a tune you can get 350 or so
|
Do it.
|
Can't trade it in, I will owe the principal bal of 10k plus whatever on the new car... I already tried for the pontiac g8 lol, pymts would have been 750 mo/ no way... 200 hp eh? Thats only 50 hp more...I want it all lol...Okay maybe 250...Is that more reasonable guys?
|
well its actually about 60 or 70 more, cuz our cars were rated at crank hp and not whp, so we really have around 130-140. ur best bet would be a m62 build which would net u maybe 225, or go turbo and get closer to ur 250 mark. anything more than 225 i would DEF recommend internal build. pistons and rods should be good enough up till 300 though.
|
75 wet shot would net you about 205
you can drive during the week with the same reliability as a stock car, and turn a few knobs on the weekend to make some extra power. |
Dawg. You don't want a 400whp cobalt. If you're looking for that power, buy something else that can give the power some use and put it to the ground.
|
better off buying an older camaro z28 with a lt1/ls1 for 6k and make 300hp stock\
or use the 6k to put a downpayment on a new cobalt or new camaro |
400whp on a fwd car isnt going to be very efficient. you'll have to spend even more money on traction mods to keep it from just spinning the tires.
|
is this guy f-ing stupid?
|
^ No. But your sig is
Just playin' |

Injectors? Are you sure you want to keep this statement? Last I knew NO ONE made upgrades for the LNF DI system yet. |
It's not an unattainable goal, certainly not for this engine. You're going to need a full engine rebuild, bottom and top end built and polished. You will need a new fuel pump, because there's no way you're going to be able to supply 79# injectors on stocker. Stage 2 axles, if you're a manual you'll need a new clutch and a prayer to the divine. All that just to make it a dyno queen, that's not getting power to the ground. After that you need drag bags, slicks, mounts, maybe some brakes.
Just some idea what all you're going to need. |
^^lets do it!!!... I plan on keeping this car for a very long time so honestly I'm ready to put up to 15-20k into it...
