Hey does anyone use 93 octane on a stock 2.2 at the track? I was thinking of putting 93 in for tomorrow nite and adding octane booster,lol but Im not sure if itll screw up my engine. Any tips?

 

higher octane isnt going to screw anything up it just burns cleaner and gives a small increase in horsepower and from personal experience octane booster seems to just be a rip off. If you want higher octane just purchase it at the pump not sure about the stations around you but where i live there is a synoco station that sells 100+ octane might want to check that out too

 

Yea I think Moroso raceway has 100 octane at the pumps

 

be careful with the octane booster though. I had a friend run too much octane booster in his GTP and ended up getting excessive carbon buildup around one of the sensors. Needless to say he had trouble getting it up to 55 and got like 13 mpg all the way home. On top of that.. he only ran 15.4!

but 93 is fine, that's all i run in mine...it just a piece of mind knowing that i don't have to worry about pre-ig

 

Higher Octane will not necessarily give you more power. If your engine isn't built for it you will just be wasting your money. Octane rates a fuels resistance to detonation, so if you don't have a high compression engine or tuning it will not help you at all to have 100 octane gas.

 

^^^ this is entirely true, the higher octane wont make your car any faster, i just plan to get in the habit of running it so in the next couple of years when the time to go FI rolls around i'm not trying to get in the habit of pumping 93 when it really matters.

 

I tried 94 octane gaz and the cars goes well so lets go and try it

 

Running High Octaine will not hurt the engine, but if the engine is not desinged to run on high octaine and you decide to fill it with lets say "116 Race gas", you will loose alot of performance.


Simple 94 will be fine but also might not do anything to improve your performace.

 

i agree... it's probably not hurting anything, but it's not helping either...

 

tried higher octane about a week ago and it did nothing but waste more money. stick with low grade til you get your boost.

 

theres no need for high octane on a stock tune 2.2

It will not make you any faster in the 1/4 mile.

 

93+ octance in a stock 2.2l will do nothign but hurt your cars performance. 93 octane is a slower burning fuel than 87 octane.

If you saved that extra money you spend on higher octane in the next couple years you will have enough to buy fi

 

116, isn't going to tickle the cats but basically acetone is really the one to watch for.

 

By buddy mixed a gallon of thylene(?) which is 118 octane with 3 gallons oif 93 and made 100 octane for half the price,lol. It was awesome to watch his Jetta shoot fire out of the exhaust,lol.

 

he was only shooting fire cause he was waisting the fuel he made. his car wasn't burning it all

 

High octane gas has less energy per volume so it will actually HURT performance. Guaranteed. Best performance comes from the lowest octane that doesn't give knock.

 

Has anyone ran ethanal in their cobalt I did once or twice in my '05 and it was ****. Now I run 91 octane pump gas and never look back!

 

I gotta tell you guys, I ran NO AIR FILTER, and my car was loving it,lol I felt a huge difference with no filter and the higher octane. Now to say it might get better if I use 91 , I dont know, but im gonna race it again next week @ Moroso and try it and ill try 91.

 

Anyone know if there will be a E85 cobalt? Only ask because just want to know how that 105 octane effects performance.

 

It's got the same basic qualities of Gas just has more Alcohol...

Not a biggie. It's usually a good quality product but it will make no performance diference + or -.

 

dammit i just drove for a little over an hour (cruisin) and my car blew through a the last 1/4 tank of gas even though my MPG meter said i was doing 31mpg. It was almost all highway! I don't know wat the hell happened,lol. And then I threw 87 in it because gas is crazy expensive where i was and my car felt SOOO much slower then when i had the 93.

 

i have actually noticed a difference between 87 and 93 octane in my stock LS......it actually accellerates a lot faster with the 93......too bad it has a speed govenor of 105......damnit......any idea if there is a way to bypass the speed govenor in an 06LS Coupe?....

 

I don't know where you guys are getting the idea that putting in higher octane gas is increasing your performance.

Yes it burns cleaner , yes it keeps the engine cleaner. BUT it also is harder to ignite. Since it's harder to ignite it means the engine will have to work HARDER to burn the fuel. so in otherwords you're more than likely LOSING power, rather than gaining it.

I think it's all in your heads.
